Hey,

I updated from my BC2 to a Beosound 5, this will fit our needs better than the BC2 - with looks stunning, so it was not an easy decision. However, we have set it up in the link system, that works fine.

The BS5 needs a network cable, we are not keen in making cable installations since we are all wlan at home. Our BO dealer told me that it is possible to use a usb network card. Has anyone done this?

Did you use the one that BO have or have you used any aftermarket usb network kit? Any intel in how to set the aftermarket kit up?

Using the B&O recommended USB-WLAN-Stick has the advantage that all necessary drivers are already pre-installed.

There are probably easier and cheaper ways of doing this but here goes:-

Buy one of these:- AirLink 101 AWLL6075 300Mbps 802.11n Wireless LAN USB 2.0 Mini Adapter  = £20 from Amazon. There are cheaper alternatives as well.

Load the drivers that come with the adapter from CD onto a USB stick and place in one of the BM5 USB slots with a mouse or mouse dongle

Go into BS5 maintenance mode, activate CMD/OSK (command / on-screen keyboard),

Load the drivers into the BM5 using MS Explorer, remove USB stick when loaded.

Insert WLAN adapeter, finish loading.

Follow instructions for WSK/WEP keys etc for you in-house router. Exit Mtce mode.

Or use an airport express or similar device to wireless extend the "lan". That is, network cable from bm5 to ae - which is configured to "extend the network". No drivers required since the bs/bm is hardwired to the lan. Might be a bit more expensive, but I think the usb solution doesn't allow the device to go into stand-by because it must keep the dongle alive - at least this was the case with early versions.

Yesterday we came back home after a few weeks on our boat.

I hurried to the electronics store to buy an apple airport express, to extend my network. I put 4 hours trying to get it to work.. I used a Zyxel router, then I changed to my old D-Link router. I still could not get it to work. So I searched the net and got the answer - the zyxel and the D-link does not support the airport express as a bridge/extender of the wifi. To solve this I went to the store this morning again and got a Airport extreme.. I love Apple products, always so easy to use.

When I returned home it took me 4 minutes to get the new network up and running so I could listen to music :)
