Yes and No! My Century was Made in Denmark and it's been the most unreliable piece of absolute rubbish from Day ONE. It was replaced on Day THREE due to electric door not closing.

The replacement models electric door jammed whenever the house temperature dropped, the cassette deck stopped working at two years old, the CD jumps at anything above volume 40, the whole casing vibrates whenever there is bass on a track. Complete load of rubbish. I guess that it had cheap parts from the start in order to keep their profits high.

I think its more important on the values of the company these days and keeping an eye on quality control and sourcing the best components which I sincerely believe that B&O do not.

Paul, I had a Century from 1995 to 1998/1999 (replaced by Ouverture) and I loved it.

That slim cabinet impressed everyone that saw/heard it.

It worked just find cd/radio/tape/door.

So was I lucky or where you unlucky ?

Oh for the love of...

I had two BeoSound Centuries (gray and yellow) at different points in time, two of my relatives still have them, and apart from your experience, by all accounts they have been very reliable products.

As for the flat/dull sounding BeoSound 8 / BeoPlay A8 you have, you must have it either configured wrong (the position switch) or a faulty unit. The BeoPlay A8 has ample bass output that surprises people who hear it.

On another note, I'm glad you like the A1.

It is an impressive little thing.

B&O product history since 1991: Ridiculously long to list in a signature.

You have been talking about your Century before. I can only say that you have been very unlucky with the two units you had.
The thing with the CD jumping at anything above volume 40 is not common with those devices. The CD mech has a suspension mechanism to isolate it from the chassis, like on all other Beosounds. So - unless you had forgotten to release the transportation screws, there was something wrong with the CD mech - and you should have had it replaced on warranty.
Same goes for the problem with the whole casing vibrating. I have never experienced this with my Century's (I have 2 -one bought from new - one second hand...both still working). They can play at full volume without any noises that shouldn't be there.
I can see in this thread, that at least two other Beoworld members are very satisfied with their Century's (or is it Centuries..?)
The BS Century is definitely more reliable than the Beosound 3, where almost all of them had problems with the top panel.

enjoyed reading Foxconn installing robots... are Asian/Pacific robots cheaper to feed than European robots ?

we tend to forget there is more to design than designing.

You do appear to have been unlucky with your Century, unlike everybody else, including myself. Ours is going strong from 18 years ago and has been in two locations on its wall bracket occasionally superseded by the Beolit for Spotify use. The Beolit is Chinese and lacks the Danish label which I prefer it had, along with a couple of details in its execution.

I fail to understand your attitude to B&O as you profess you don't view TV because you're surfing and then discuss TVs. Your polarised opinions on products you do not and probably will not buy are confusing to say the least.
