Hello,

In some weeks I will have the Beosound essence. I would like to know what the best way slave or master ?

I have a Beosound 4 , HP computer , Android Samsung telephone, Samsung Tab 3 and a Sony TV.

2 Beolab  3 and 1 Beolab 11.

Have a good day.

Wondering what you mean by 'slave or master'???

Normally the terms 'slave and master' are represententing how devices in a MasterLink-seup acts.

This is different in the NL-world!

You might say that there are only 'masters' in a B&O networklink setup.

Thats perfectly ok!

One way you could do it, is to use the PowerLink-out (you'll need an adapter cable) to connect the Essence-box to the Aux-input of your BS4.

Note: the Essence will have to be configured as 'fixed line-out' and you won't be able to use the 'wheely-remote' for volume controlling! This will have to be done with the BS4.

The Essence has a line-in connection, which has autosense (means it turns on when a signal is detected).

This can be used for the connection of the tv - RCA out (volumen fixed - controlled via the BS4).

Your speakers then connected to the BS4 = BS4 -> BL11 -> BL3.

The functions/sources of the Essence must be controlled via the BeoMusic app respectively with the 'wheely'.

@JPV

Just wondering, - with the B&O products listed, where would the Essence come into play?

What are you trying to achieve? Smile

I have an Essence connected to the aux in on my Beosound 5. I can use the volume wheel in the app to adjust volume although I have a maximum volume set in the settings of the BeoSetup App. If the volume is set to high  on the Essence there is distortion and and static in the sound. Maybe I have it set up wrong?

Took a look at my settings in the BeoSetup app. If I select Line Out Level, it says Use Power Link socket for connection to anode system instead. I am using the Power Link socket to connect to the Beomaster 5?

@Razlaw

I have the box: 'connect...to another system' ticked.

The volume-output is fixed and has to controlled by the BM (to which it is connected/Aux-in),

and it is how I want it.

I have no 'wheely' right now to test it, but I can't imagine that the volume control there should do anything, since the same control in the app also does nothing.

It wouldn't be desireable to have two volume controls in one system either!

By the way - this is example 3 in the above linked document!!!

I do not use an essence remote, but the volume wheel works. If I have aux in activated on the MasterLink system, and then use the app to also turn on my V1 wirelessly connecting to the Essence, I can select group and then there are two circles in the app volume control. Moving them together adjusts the volume on the V1 and the ML system simultaneously.

I went back into settings and next to the line message, what I thought was just an indicator, was in reality a box I could check. Checking that box did disable the volume feature of the app as well. That would appear to be the correct way. Thanks. But if the box is not checked, then the app can control the volume, although turning up too high in the app does seem to affect sound quality.

Thank you again for directing me to the right/better setting.

I was using my Essence as "master" with a BS Ouverture, i.e. as main gear, BLs plugged in it, Ouverture plugged in the Essence Line in.

I think it depends on your way to use your equipment...

If you're mainly listening to networked sources (internet radios, NAS) it's better like this (you don't have to turn on other equipment).

If you're mainly using your BS4 (CD), then plug the Essence in the Line in of the BS4, not the contrary.

The sound quality may not be that different (it's simple to check this point by a trial).

Sure that would be a(nother) way to use it.

Since I still have a couple of masterlinked rooms (and even a MCL-room), I choose to do it the other way 'round.

That way I have the sources of the Essence available in all rooms...

....including in the room with my new (second) tv, the V1-32 (without having to use the converter).

The Essence is a very 'flexible' device - fits in everywhere ;-))

Bonjour JpV
