Hi all!

I picked up a Beogram 3000 type 59xx and a "matching" Beomaster 3000 at the local Goodwill and was intrigued to see what I could do with them. They both power up, the Beogram displays speeds correctly, the tonearm manual motion buttons work (when vinyl is on the platter), but have a couple problems that hopefully will ring a bell. I've spent several hours reading through the forums and found interesting experiences, but nothing that has applied to my situation.

The unit does not have a functioning needle, has an MMC 5 cartridge, but the needle is broken off, so I have to carefully "simulate" the needle tracking.

What works:

1. "Plays" a 45 perfectly (when controlled by Beomaster)

2. Manual tonearm motion left and right

3. The manual speed select buttons and speed display

4. Automatic speed/size selection playing (controlled from Beomaster)

What doesn't work:

1. Play and Stop buttons -- no response from either regardless of whether or not it is connected to the Beomaster. Playing can only be initiated from the Beomaster.

2. "Playing" a 33 -- tonearm cues, drops to the correct place, plays to the end, tonearm lifts and carriage begins to return home but after about 30-40mm of motion, the platter locks and carriage jams, BUT the platter drive motor continues to spin against the jammed platter and the speed continues to display. It will sit indefinitely in this condition if not disconnected. Cycling the "standby" mode on the Beomaster will not reset it. Have to disconnect the power and move the platter backwards while engaging the rear-most solenoid plunger to unlock the carriage, so it can be returned home.

Belts have not been replaced.

I've cleaned off any of the grease that was old and gummy or dry and parts move freely.

The solenoid moves very freely and doesn't seem to be broken or damaged.

I'm a 40 yr electronics hobbyist with a decade of computer repair experience, but no specific expertise in turntables. I've downloaded the service manual and studied to find relevant references, but have found nothing that is amiss.

My intention isn't to become a B&O fanatic, just love the older and more exotic electronics. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
