As the Beolab 5 is now almost 10 years old, I was wondering if anything new might be coming, or if they will continue to be the top of the line speakers for some time to come. Any thoughts or info?

Someone has asked this before, and my previous answer was that my dealer claims that B&O have a new speaker in development which will sit above the BL5. Dealers have been informed earlier this year.
Didn't Peter and 9Lee say the same thing after their recent visit to Struer? No-one knows much else or even when it's going to be released. Just that one is in development and it will be the high-end speaker above the BL5.

If only I had the money for the sort of money required, I would reply with a photograph showing some BeoLab 5000s mounted on the wall - quite literaly above some BeoLab 5s.
Actually, given that I live on the 4th floor without a lift, money would not change anything I suppose
Do B&O need a better speaker than the BL5? They are still one of the best sounding speakers in the world at any price.
Yeah but, it's as ugly as sin! Ghastly things!
In the right home environment the BL5 looks great. But they are not for everyone. But so would be the case with a replacement as well I think.

Beosound Stage, Beovision 8-40, Beolit 20, Beosound Explore.
I believe that the BeoLab 5 can have its sound considerably improved without a change to the current physical design. (via changes to software and parameters etc. etc.)
I really hope nothing new is on the immediate horizon ... I need some time to save and I'm not quite ready to part with my BeoLab 5's yet!

So, in what way would you considerably improve the sound?

One thing that caught my eye regarding this topic is on the Audioholics On-Line A/V Magazine in which the writer went to the B & O facility (lucky guy!).
After writing about the Adaptive Bass Control , the next paragraph was this:
While this is not a true room correction system, it is a fairly interesting dependent boundary and room mode system. In non-optimal placements, the Adaptive Bass Control will help the BeoLab 5 sound the way the designers meant for it to sound. When asked about true room correction (something that corrects for a particular seat or listening area), all I got was, "We are working on it."
The writer also said that aside from bass output, the Beolab 3 sounded very similar to the Beolab 5. This comment was made when the two speaker types were located hidden behind a curtain so it wasn't known which speaker was playing.

I wonder if the ability for the Beolab 5 to adjust frequency response at the listener position might be a moot point in this era of surround sound processors that do that for ALL of the speakers in a system, not to mention adjust cross-over points as well.
The thing about DSP based room correction is that while you can address both frequency and time domain problems, the better a job you do at correction the smaller the acceptable listening area. You can do an outstanding job at one very narrow listening position, or a less good job over a wider area.
Given B&O's long term emphasis on being able to enjoy music all over a room, something the acoustic lenses on the Beolab 5's provide, I would expect any room correction they do to be mild and focused on a large area.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
