Hello,

I just bought a pair of Beolab 12-3's.  I would like to make a connection that will allow me to listen audio from my Samsung UN65JU7500 Curved 65-Inch , as well as listen wirelessly to music from my iPhone/ipod, etc.

Since I have to provide power to the speakers, I thought about getting a Beolab Transmitter 1 (T1) and used a wired connection, as follows:

1. Connect the T1 to the TV with a Toslink Cable.

2. Connect the T1 to each speaker using cat 7 RJ45 cables trough the PL ports.

I am not sure if I am able to use the PL ports in the T1 as outputs.

If this configuration does not work, is there any different solution that connecting each speaker to a Receiver 1?

I would appreciate if anyone has some experience with this situation.

Thank you in advance for your help and suggestions.

Hello Tulio,

A direct connection from the TV to the Transmitter 1 via Toslink won't work, as you won't have any volume control over the speakers (the TV toslink output is at a fixed volume).

One way around this is to add the BeoPlay S8 Connection Hub (£149 from UK B&O stores) between the TV and the Transmitter 1 to give you volume control via the TV remote.  This way, you just need a Toslink cable from the TV to the Hub (http://soundsheavenly.com/input/149-premium-braided-toslink-optical-cable-with-metal-plugs.html) and an RJ45 Powerlink cable from the Hub to the Transmitter 1 (http://soundsheavenly.com/powerlink-rj45-cat5-connection-models-from-2013/28-rj45-powerlink-compatible-shielded-cable-for-beolab-speakers-2013-and-newer.html).  The same RJ45 Powerlink cables are then used to connect each Receiver 1 to one of the speakers.

The other, simpler option is a direct cable from the TV headphone socket (if fitted) to the two speakers: http://soundsheavenly.com/line-in-connection/70--trs-2x7pd-.html plus one of these adapters at each speaker: http://soundsheavenly.com/bang-olufsen/30-rj45-to-powerlink-compatible-clip-on-adapter-convert-new-2013-ethernet-powerlink-to-traditional-8-pin-din-powerlink.html

Kind regards, Steve.

Hello Steve,

Thank you very much for your answer.

I am thinking about using a RCV3000 IR receiver in order to control the volume for the beolab 12-3 speakers.  Do you know if this will work?.

I am still not sure if I can use RJ45 Powerlink cables in order to connect the T1 to the speakers (wired connection), instead of buying one or two Receiver 1 to have a wireless connection.

Also, I would like to know, regardless if I can connect the speakers to the T1 with cables or using Receive 1, if I will be able to have a wireless connection using my iPhone/iPod. Do I need something else in order to be able to use my iPhone/ipod ?

Best Regards,

Tulio

Hello Tulio,

You would need to check with your B&O dealer to see if the RCV3000 will control your TV, as they have the full list of compatible TV models.

You cannot connect speakers directly to the Transmitter 1, all of the connections on this device are inputs (ie. from music sources).  Transmitter 1 gives a wireless output only, ie. to Receiver 1 or newer WiSA speakers only.

Kind regards, Steve.
