Beovision 8 >> Apple TV

 

I have a Beovision 8 with an Apple TV unit in the spare bedroom. It works fine but I have to use two remotes, then a friend pointed out that I can use the Beo4 if I buy the correct cable

Is there a way to see if it's already compatible? I bought the TV on eBay and would feel very silly if I paid a bunch of money for someone to come out and say "it's already fine"  I suppose I could just buy the cable anyway, although then if I need the TV upgraded I look very cheap, having to admit I already have a cable I bought online.  I'm also wondering what sort of cost that is, especially as I only use that TV myself once in a blue moon and in all honesty, the BV8 is getting on in years so it may be cheaper (or at least better) to sell it and upgrade to a newer TV that's already compatible with the Apple TV.

 

When you are configuring the input port (of the ATV), you are asked some questions (for the settings).

If PUC codes (which are the codes, that the tv needs to translate a non-B&O ir-code) are already installed, you should see the list there.

Usually there are some codes already - you'd have to check for the Apple code.

If not, they must be installed from a B&O tech.

If you want another (used) B&O tv, be sure that these codes are already there!

Only the newer BV's (based on the BSys4 platform) are able to download these codes directly.

So is it possible in a menu to check on the BV8 whether the previous owner installed this already? As in if I do go and buy another TV (now or in the future) can I tell a seller how to check if they're unsure?

Mine is an older BV8, however you can configure Apple TV to learn a remote control - I used the STB homechoice as the Apple codes on the BV8 kept repeating commands.

As I use my BV8 only for ATV, I removed the Digital TV/Link card and the apple TV fits nicely in the space making it a great standalone TV with only one mains cable coming out of it.

Hi - sorry, not very clear - What i did was went into the STB menu and selected the box marked Homechoice, I then used the apple remote and got the ATV box to the learn remote menu, then pressed SAT and pressed the buttons on the Beo4 until it had learnt the commands (Up, Down etc) I was able to use Stop as Pause and GO as Play, Select and Pause. Fpr me I used Yellow as exit or back as it seemed logical (I have 3 beovisions setup this way) Some of the STBs didnt work, for example SKY+ and Pace as the ATV could not recognise some of the commands. I did try the Apple TV STB option, but this kept scrolling two or three lines at a time so opted to learn one instead.

Thanks Andrew - I started out with a second generation ATV then a 3rd gen and now the 4th. So I had always specified to the B&O that I need the Apple PUC and so did not need to go your route of teaching the remote.

I chose to associate the ATV with the DVD key simply because I think of it as stored video rather than love transmissions.
