found the mounting clips a little tricky to align during this task, I very small amount of washing up liquid on the plastic tangs made the job much easier and they popped back in with very little force.
I'm pleased with the way this is coming along.....there remains a lot of components still to replace but I have yet to find any issues.
having replaced all the presets, well all the ones I could find...I decided to start at the right hand side and work left changing capacitors as I go.
still a fair way to go......should I replace the rectifiers too while I have this apart?
Let me know when you are back and we can sort something out. What speakers are you planning on using?

If you would like to borrow some M100s at the same time, my wife would no doubt be delighted! They may need the overload circuit playing with but that normally means some emery paper! I might ask you to look at a Beogram 4001 (!) which needs a little work!
Well......back from doing this! 2 weeks was not long enough. Will get back to the 4400 this week and crack on with the recap, Peter you certainly have an Aladdin's cave full of quality equipment I have to say ;¬)
I am on holiday the next two weeks but apart from a wedding in Norwich, I am at home - I could actually bring the bits down next week if that was convenient - do you want to borrow the M100s? They are rather large! I take it you have S45-2s?
The Aladdin's cave is actually rather sparse these days - I used to have a lot but these days I have very little - I do have a 6000 quad - do you want to play with that? It is somewhere under the bed!!
I will be home all of next week, the M100's are very large your quite right...I have 3800's myself which should be fine. Regarding the Beogram 4001 I would be happy to take a look...bear in mind my experience with B&O is limited to that which I have chronicled on this site ;¬)
I have used 3800s with a 4400 and they are super speakers - I have re-homed a pair in the past. I'll contact you once back from Norfolk - if without speakers, it might be an excuse to give the Triumph a little run if only to test the new water pump I plan to fit!
Sounds like a little 2 seater to me? I wouldn't need an excuse to have a run out with the top down while the weather holds ;¬)

Going back to the power supply connector, I came across this on ebay......
still had to identify live and neutral on the cable but as everything is still in bits that was easy
taking shape........next step, power up and consult Rudi's blog to set up the idle current. I know I should tie in a DBT for the initial power up just in case but I don't have one.......tough decision.

Still got these water spots on the case......tried to clean them off but no joy, was thinking maybe a light application of teak oil may do it.......anyone got any ideas?
Im also missing a preset cover......if anyone knows where such a thing is available (just to finish things off) Dillen?

If you are measuring across BOTH emitter resistors, 5,5mV is not enough for a correct idle current.5,5mV across ONE or 11mV across BOTH.
Thanks for that....I have sent a paypal payment for one off cover, will look great. I will also double check the connection points I used on the 2W resistors for the 5.5mv adjustments....I'm pretty sure I was only across one resistor (went from the top of each vertically installed component) but I will certainly make sure of this...thanks ;¬)

The teak oil is also what I use for water marks, but you'll have to do it again from time to time.

You need a Chest X-Ray - you should be able to get it done in 24 hours. Better still would be a CT scan.

well......just when everything was going fine!
Received two more Beovox 3800 speakers which where in very poor shape....one cabinet had all the speakers hanging loose due to missing screws and damaged housing. Got them sorted and recapped before connecting up to the BM4400, all was fine and I enjoyed a period of just enjoying the 4400 connected up to two sets of Beovox 3800's and was considering another project when yesterday the 4400 suddenly fell silent half way through Billy Joel's Piano man! Unwilling to blame Billy I decided to open her up. on inspection the overload relay RL 1 looks like its kicking in immediately on power up.....further inspection revealed that the left channel output transistors IOC 100 & IOC 101 where loose against the heat sink, this was not a chance discovery as I had been fiddling with the heat sink screws from the outside the day before and didn't know they held the above in place (clearly a schoolboy error there) and I fear the worst as a result. Re securing the transistors has not resolved the issue.
So its the circuit diagrams this afternoon, any guidance on this would be appreciated whilst I ponder the diagram?
Following on my take on this is that the fault switch has been activated by failure of IOC 100 & IOC 102. My understanding of this protection is if a high temperature is sensed at the heat sink by PTC R40 its resistance increases turning on IC3 and energising R1 which isolates the 35v power rail. As my transistors where not fully in contact with the heat sink I feel int unlikely that this occured, I think the temperature has ran away and they have turned on TR16 as shown in the annotated diagram, double click to see notes..........
