Can I use a Beosound 9000 Mk III as a simple CD player ?
One of my systems has a Beogram CDX connected to a Beomaster 4000 driving Kef Reference 104aB speakers and it sounds amazing.
Is it possible to connect a Beosound 9000 MKIII to my Beomaster 4000 so as to use it as a straightforward CD transport mechanism with the Beogram 4000 controlling the volume/balance/bass/treble etc and driving the speakers.
Alternatively, I have a complete Beosystem 6500 ( four units plus MCP6500), again with Kef 104aB speakers. Can I incorporate a Beosound 9000 MkIII as part of this set-up?
I do not want to change the 4000 or 6500 receivers or the Kef Speakers. Any advice would be most appreciated.
Hi Danny!
Absolutely!
Simply use the digital output with a coax (digital) to RCA (analog) converter.
In your specific case the Powerlink would actually work too, since the BM 4000 has a manual volume control!
Hi Beovox141,
What is an RCA (analog) converter? Is it a DAC unit?
Yes it is!
They come in may shapes and forms. Usually between 10-15 GBP.
This one is just a random unit from Amazon...
Thanks for that - can you name a couple of top-end units - I don't want to compromise on sound quality.
Cheers
I use the Beosound 9000 as a CD player with my Beomaster 8000 and I simply use audio out from the aux plug. It's the outermost DIN plug next to the 2 powerlink plugs. The signal is at line level and goes into, on the Beomaster 8000, Tape 1 or Tape 2. So there's really no need to use the digital out unless you want state of the art DACs. Using analog out in this way you can also use the radio on the Beosound 9000 if you should so desire.
When you use the Beosound in this fashion, with no speakers connected and not using Masterlink, it should be set to option 1 mode with your remote. Otherwise it will be silent.

Cheers Squire,
Much appreciated - I'll let you know how I get on once I've set the thing up.
