hello

should absolutely need a beovision 4 for using a beosystem 2 ?

I just want to test the audio 5.1 output but someone told me that the beosystem 2 won't power on without the beovision/panasonic screen.

it will power on but 2 pins have to be shortened before that. don't ask me which pins exactly. I remember this info from a thread on the old archived forum.

found the info you need. pins 2+3 of the rs232 connector have to shortened to power up the bs2 without a bv4.

You need to do this because the BS2 expects an answer from the screen like "Hi, I am Beovision 4".
To shorten the pins you can use a gender changer and a paperclip.
I did this to setup a BS2 once with an Monitor.

Once set up, you can get a lintronic tt http://lintronic.dk/tt455rt238.aspx to turn on the tv / screen.
And use the Beo 4 to control the devices connected
For the HW 6.x you will need an IR eye, the older version 5.x have the Beo 4 receiver already in the little box (that is why I still have on on the attic...maybe I am testing this as well in the future, our BV 4-42 (HD! with 2 x DVI) is getting too small as a screen for the kids room).

If the rs232 plug is the same than the one on the computer mother board for the screen, I have already the good connector.

I use one for a motherboard that didn't want to power on if a screen was not plugged.

Hi

tried wirh the digital output of a sony bluray player and the digital input of the beosystem works flawlessly.

i still have issue for displaying the menu with the rgb output on my computer screen.

last time the screen displayed the menu but not all the time but I could modify things easily. This time it doesn't display anything. I tried with another old computer lcd screen and nothing more.

Your computer monitor needs to take RGBHV 575P 50 Hz as input signal. You could get an Philips Brilliance 109P for example (that is what I used some years ago).

Is there any way to connect it through a VGA>HDMI converter to a modern-day Full HD TV?

Hi ralf,

you are still always helpfull ! Very important information.

A crt monitor should be able to deal with this resolution.

That won't resolve the issue concerning the resolution. The pb is that modern screen are not able to display it.
