I have a Beovision7 in the bedroom which I've just used for DVDs but the wife has been nagging me to set it up with normal television. It's the mk1 I'm pretty sure (model 9314 on the back) and I took a look at the Beoworld tech specs. I think I'm right in saying that it doesn't have a digital converter built in but you can use the Beo4 to control a digibox by means of an IR cable? If that's the case, is it any digibox from a major company (Sony/Toshiba/etc) - ie do I just need to get the cable and ant cheap STB on eBay - or is there a list of compatible units?

Hi Calvin,
It is worth checking the PUC table in the TV (by going through the process to assign a new set top box and looking which options are listed) as your TV may already have had some manufacturers boxes loaded in. If so, the simplest option is to go for a similar box to one in the list, then you don't need to have the TV software updated.
I always use Humax boxes, as they work well when controlled by B&O TVs and they are good quality boxes at sensible prices. Another advantage is that the IR commands are common across the Humax range, so if you have one Humax box in the TV PUC list, you can fit just about any Humax box and control it from the Beo4 remote.
Then you just need this cable to let the TV control the set top box: http://soundsheavenly.com/televisions/59--ir-blaster-.html
Oh, if you do need to have the TV software update, it often works out much cheaper if you can take the TV to your local B&O store instead of calling them out to you - much easier with a BV7-32 than with a 7-40........
Kind regards, Steve

I took a look and there's a load of companies I've never heard of (pace, echostar, kathrein, telenor) plus a few Nokia/Philips entries. I do spot these two though
Humax ci8100pvr
Humax btci 5900
I'm guessing I'll take your advice and get a Humax brand one on eBay (item 122062345956 springs to mind) as if it's compatible with those two it should work with the 3rd if the IR commands are common.
Depending on the model numbers, the Pace and Nokia listings may be for Sky satellite decoders. The Humax option is probably the simplest one. I would advise going for a brand new box from a professional supplier if you use catch-up TV services (eg. BBC iPlayer) as many older Humax boxes use a version of iPlayer that will cease to be supported by the BBC from September 2016 (not sure of the T2 version in the ebay listing, so could be worth checking this).
Kind regards, Steve.
