Paul W: Hi Emil, I agree, the older CRT Avant did indeed sell to very old people at the time. However, on this forum alone, there are two guys aged 30ish and under 30 that own the new Avant. And quite frankly, B&O are so damn desperate for sales - they'll see to anyone. I know that when I lived in Liverpool, the only people that bought the BV9 were the drug dealers! I know that as the old sales guy told my vulgar radio sales woman and she told everyone. And yes here in the UK, many B&O shops do use Blu-Ray players and my gosh, it will make sense for them to use the new 4K Blu-Ray HDR players as that does seem the best possible way to watch 4K films to many enthusiasts.

The old CRT Avant was without doubt the most stylish TV available in its day. It also happened to be arguably the best picture quality available (may be a Sony component system matched it). It had the best sound of any TV (without surround, - external speakers could be connected directly to make it even better) and it was the audio distribution hub of your home - in short it was out there on its own as the state of the art. It too was bought by the glitterati...........
.........which leads me to your "very old people" comment - why do you continue to turn up here, post complete bollocks and make an utter twit of yourself? Why is anyone who doesn't fit into your very narrow (and shifting) lifestyle either "vulgar" or "old"? You, my friend, have an awful lot to learn - I only hope the comedown is gentle!
Ban boring signatures!
+100 to Puncher
Ah, you know... A little B&O here, a little there
BEOVOX141: Am I the only one wondering why you would go for a 4k TV, just to play Netflix or Youtube on a smart TV platform? Highly compressed and reduced bitrate!

I think "highly" is pushing it. Any 4K video I have watched on Netflix looks much better than a 1080p Blu-ray.

Paul has been very negative about "old people" for so many years now... he doesn't realize, that he will soon be just another one of those old farts, he obviously disgust so much. A very sad and hateful person.
Hope this hasn't been posted before, it came up for me as I was surfing the net earlier this evening.

Chris Townsend:At least it's got wood
So, we pay 10 times the price for a chinese branded Philips that is made in Poland and rebranded as aB&O TV?That's tough...
uahahha pay payyy payyyy mooreeee
Let's look in the opposite way. Most people, found the BV11 a beautiful set, so the BV14 is a rebranded one with a refurbished case integrated completely in the new B&O style.
So, where is the problem? The huge price? Or the not so up to date technical specifications we expected? The price is indeed huge, but that's no surprise with B&O, for this price you get a beautiful picture and a very good looking piece of furniture in your house. If you want the latest specifications, get yourself in to another brand of TV, but don't be surprised if it looks like having a black hole in your sitting room (well, at last you will have the latest specs).
I said well done B&O, This updated BV11 is again a nice looking piece of Scandinavian furniture to enjoy.
"Believe nothing you read and only half of what you see, let your ears tell you the truth."
Can anyone recall the reaction to the BV11 when it came out? Was it considered state of the art from a technical point of view at the time? The BV11 has in my eyes become a bit of a classic design and I believe sold pretty well.
I wasn't on Beoworld then so have no real concept of how it was first received on here.

Well said. If HDR hadn't appeared (and it only appeared at the very end of 2015!) no one would be concerned. Within a couple of years there will be another 'advance' that makes HDR obsolete if recent trends continue. Enjoy the BV11/14 for what it is!

Yes, very well received and still a wonderful classic design.
I recall a few moans about the plasticky back (compared to the rubber coated previous TV's.

Looking at B&O's financials, I don't think this strategy works too well for them.
NB: I do look at the BV11/14 as a sculpture - rather than just a TV set - in my living room. But I also percieve B&O as a leader in new technologies and new, advanced ways to bring that technology in a human way to their customers.
We've had similar debate when Moment was launched. Turned out technology does matter to a certain extent, and if you won't incorporate latest and greatest, then the company of B&O's profile should at least bring actual mainstream technologies.
Frankly, I feel torn apart with BV14 and I'm in love with its looks. :)
Vikinger: Same for me. :)
I have a Beovision 11 which is only 10 months or so old. I do love it, its beautiful. Embarrassingly I have never heard of HDR and neither has any of my friends! Learn't about it on this thread. Personally I am not really worried about HDR. I am more worried about my overall experience. I am not only watching TV to see how black is the black(although the BV 11 black is very good) or how blue is blue....I am actually enjoying what I am watching. I have no idea what the cost of including HDR in a TV would be, there has to be a reason why it wasn't included. I am sure B&O has heard of HDR! Any product will have flaws and apart from the lack of HDR ( which some see as a flaw) or one less HDMI port (Lets not buy it because of that!) its pretty flawless!

I sense you are holding back Puncher!

moxxey: There are one or two - note one or two only - on here who say that anything B&O does is "amazing", but most of us are far more critical than we used to be and rightly so. I might come across as negative, but I'm sitting surrounded by B&O kit: BV12-65, BV11, BL18s, BL20, BL3s, A1, A9, A8, etc etc. I'm a core customer. You can't say I've not supported the brand :)
Beolab 50, Beolab 8000 x 2, Beolab 4000 x 2, BeoSound Core, BeoSound 9000, BeoSound Century, BeoLit 15, BeoPlay A1, BeoPlay P2, BeoPlay H9 3rd Gen, BeoPlay H6, EarSet 3i, BeoVision Eclipse Gen 2 55", BeoPlay V1-40, BeoCom 6000 and so much else :)
Duels:I suspect many B&O owners are capable of an impulse buy.
Well said, I agree with you, I also wondering the same :-)
And why doesn't BV Avant Home Media support Apple Lossless when A6 does?
Michael:..... there's still more to discuss. Like the menu system. Is it new? Or is it the same? Is the Google system a source like the old smart tv system? From what I gather from their webpage both the old smart tv system and the new is available. The menu system (OSD) is something I want to hear more about. And also the new remote which looks logical. The volume and program buttons seems to be bent now so it's large buttons instead of two flat Long ones.

Apparently, according to the recordere review of Horizon the interface is android (which I believe then is quite cluttered unfortunately). So the current models is probably preferable in that sense to the new ones. And one other thing I noticed. Just look how off center the new house-icon for the android interface is placed on the remote. (And thanks B&O for removing the super unnecessary TEXT-button and moving the LIST to a better spot!).
The house is off center, but it is definitely in line with the numbers in that column, which are also off center (same thing on the left).

does the "house" button pull up Home Control?
Also, I'm assuming these remotes can be programmed for non BlueTooth? I.E. current Avant, 11? etc?
Lastly, can you bluetooth pair this remote with an a6?

So they are saying it does do HDR?
Severed_Hand_of_Skywalker: So they are saying it does do HDR?
Most likely have mistaken the question for Hard Disk Recording.

As an IOS guy, I hate the fact that the new B&O remote now includes an Android home and back button ;)

Aussie Michael:I love the wood lamellas. I was thinking when I saw the video of the BV14 that it looks like the wood has a backing that may have magnets (here's hoping) to allow for BV11 owners to use it too.
Happily, compatibility with BV11 chassis has been confirmed!!!
Sal:Happily, compatibility with BV11 chassis has been confirmed!!!
Aussie Michael:The user guides to the new remote (it has voice search) and the BV14 are up on the support page. It shows a little bit of the home interface ! Now I'm thinking can the new BT remote be used for the PS4/PS3 I love that list has been moved to a better spot I like the home icon and the back icon but it terms of consistency all the other boxes are text. I love the wood lamellas. I was thinking when I saw the video of the BV14 that it looks like the wood has a backing that may have magnets (here's hoping) to allow for BV11 owners to use it too. So if the horizon and the 14 are non HDR. I reckon that the Avant NG may just be an OLED. It won't be called Next Generation for nothing. And that will be the flagship TV. (Just a thought)
Chris Townsend:The main change is the operating system, same panel. Beovision 7-55 Mk2, Avant RF 28, Beolab 9, Beolit 15, Beoplay A1/A2, Beocom 2, Beotime, H3 ANC/H8/H6/H2, Form 2, Beoplay A3, Beovision 5-42 connected to a DVD1
Would be nice if the new Beoremote one can be paired to other Bluetooth devices like the Essence or other Bluetooth compatible non B&O devices like the Essence remote can. :-)The price is not the problem with the Beovision 14... it's the way and location of manufacturing. As far as I know the Beovision 11 was made in Denmark? B&O Menus, technology (except for things like the Panel etc.) and I still love its design. It's timeless and beautiful. Now they ask the same price for a slow Android based chinese modular plattform from TP Vision that is - understably - not made in Denmark? This way I'm feeling that the company is just greedy and makes fun of its customers - like they did with the Essence upgrade from MK1 to MK2 without supporting "older" customers that bought it just months before the MK2 came out. There's absolutely no argument for me to buy a Beovision 14 instead of Beovision 11.- "Smart" Android that is awfully slow? No, thanks- 4K resolution when I'm sitting 5m away from myTV? No, thanks. - supporting chinese crap? No, thanks! As the wood front is compatible with the Beovision 11 that would be the only part of the TV I ;-)
