jvezina:Good morning, I am afraid that these televisions are just a stop-gap interim solution that were released because B&O had to release something in a hurry. Very few R&D was actually needed to design these sets: same cabinets (or very similar) for the BV 14 or Avant and off the shelf PCBs from TP Vision for the video engine, control and Smart TV, but with the B&O excellent sound processing PCB added. I am not even sure that the LCD panels used have local dimming (please correct me). The real stuff will come next year when the LG partnership will take effect. Then we will have everything: HDR, etc. The TP Vision PCBs will be then replaced with the ones supplied by LG and with an OLED panel. Here is a review of a recent LG TV: Normal 0 21 false false false FR JA X-NONE http://www.flatpanelshd.com/review.php?subaction=showfull&id=1465365585 Breathtaking! I think it is worth to wait for the new B&O sets in 2017. My BV 7-40 Mk III is still running strong after almost 9 years and even if its panel is not state of the art (but its picture is still much better than that of those cheap LCDs with cartoonish pictures and colours) and I have the intention to keep it as long as possible. But if something spectacular comes out, I will relegate it to a more secondary role as I did for my MX-5000. Best regards, Jean

Razlaw: I recently looked at the LG while at my dealer. As you say, the picture is Breathtaking! A simply amazing picture.

Looking at a tv at your dealer is one thing - using a tv for 'everyday purpose' is another.
I don't want a tv, that can produce 'breathtaking pictures' with demo material - I want a tv with superb allround picture quality from the sources, that I use everyday.
And with a BV we are talking picture and sound, which is far from what an LG tv can offer.

The top of the Line LG G6 series have stunning picture, great webos3.0 but; they are extremely wobly, have tiny speakers, the speaker bar points down when mounted on a wall, no multiroom audio (nor their own musicflow), have worst cable management, weird remote and they look awefull on a wall.
Altough they outpace B&O in picture quality, they can't touch for class and elegance. I still hope that with android-tv B&O can stay 'elegant'. They can't but class but B&O could buy good panels and processing — now hope they do one day. C'mon, HDR already. 😉

I've had one for 2 years and trust me, the picture quality is way more breathtaking at home. The demo material is actually quite bad, and the settings and light conditions in the stores are just rubbish. Much much better at home.

Millemissen:
Why is people so ignorant?
How sad that you must resort to calling other people ignorant and resorting to personal insults to try to make your point. And I thought posts were to be civil here and avoid personal insults. As many others have stated repeatedly in this forum, a forum is for discussion and opinions where everyone should be free to have an opinion. This is the first time in a long time that I can remember anyone here lowering themselves to such a petty level as to call others names in such an insulting manner.
I am a little bit disappointed, because I think B&O missed a great chance. All big companies agreed to one standard. If any tv passes the "quality test" it gets the HDR "guarantee seal". As a customer you don't have to think about the technic behind, you can concentrate on design and usability (like a Bentley - questions about the motor power aren't interesting - it's just enough, let's think about the leather).
Now everyone has to decide, if he wants to buy a beautiful tv, with a (i am sure) beautiful picture, but with a missing standard, or a futureproof (i hate this word) tv from another company.
OLED or LED backlight - who cares, if the pictue is brilliant
3D or not - it's a gimmick
Android or WEBOS 3.0 - it's a faith ask
BUT......
HDR is the 2016 standard of premium tv's and a 6000€ 40''tv should be a premium tv. In my eyes it should be a matter of course that the feature is in the tv
Agree ...
Brigantinus:Now everyone has to decide, if he wants to buy (1) a beautiful tv, with a (i am sure) beautiful picture, but with a missing standard, or (2) a futureproof (i hate this word) tv from another company.
Except there is option (3) ... or wait another 12 months and meanwhile enjoy your (superb) picture* and superb sounds of today's BVs.

and if the German lion thingy is even Made in Germany... wow ;-) Btw: They have a motorised speaker system, too. Even LG has it on some TVs.The sluggish Android user interface of the B&O Android TV is a shame but I guess you'll have to blame Google this time and not B&O. We're living in the year 2016 and a gigantic software company like Google ist NOT able to build fluid or ergonomic user interfaces... unbelievable! Really! You just need to compare an Android wear watch with a Samsung Gear S2 watch: Android wear is something a freak designed, but nobody that seems to live in a real world with required everyday ergonomics... ;-)Beovision 14: Sorry, but, no, thanks. Beovision 11 or Avant is the better choice. Simply order the wood frets of the Beovision 14 and you're ready to go with a beautiful television and not a 500 Euro chinese television made in Poland and sold for 10.000 Euro. :-) B&O is so much on the wrong way... no wonder they're struggling.

Does anyone know if the BV14 has arrived in any of the UK stores yet?

Andrew: It might be an idea to wait and actually see one working before getting obsessed with the technology - personally I would rather have a natural picture on a 40 inch screen than some massive screen with the colour and contrast turned up to impress everyone.

Totally right. It is funny that when the Avant first came out, many individuals were saying don't buy it because of the lack of HVEC. Now today its HDR. The media industry is being driven by distribution and consumption. The TV and producer parts of the industry are trying desperately to find points of value and the problem is this is great technology that does not map to modern viewing behaviours. Sky get this really well. Sky Q is the perfect compromise and they truly understand viewing behaviour and know that Sport for example is the point of entry into new tech. The 0.000000x% who buy a Blu-ray 4k with HDR will I'm sure enjoy several movies they end up using it for. And for those lucky enough to have mega bandwidth - coz you'll need it!!!! - then I'm sure you'll enjoy Game of Thrones via Netflix. But that bandwidth will not be commonplace in the UK for several more years unfortunately because our government and the regulators are far too lenient on BT Openworld. Bit of politics thrown in there for good measure ;-) This is why Apple was smart staying 1080P and likewise SkyQ Mini's are also only 1080P. My 2 cents and I'm sure many might disagree.
Michael:It's unnecessary to say that. And to completely cut out all of the rest of what I was saying, too. And to expressively direct what you wrote to me. What you are complaining about, is exactly what only you have done and not me. Many here has tried to explain the reason for why HDR is a good thing and still the discussion is more about comparing old cars or stuff like that or that it's unnecessary because it's not for B&Os audience and so forth. I think this is just very strange and it feels very strange to be directly pointed out like that because technology is an interest, not only for me. Why this extreme temper? And continuous debate about how it's nothing that matters? As you said yourself, everyone has a right to their opinion and mine is that it's disappointing that it lacks HDR and several members have pointed out how the lack of HDR is a bad thing too, with good explanations to why - and even still - that seems to go unnoticed. Instead I wake up directly accused, only for saying that people ignore the facts. I'm really, really sad to wake up and have to read this. Never would I believe anyone would take that tone on a friendly place like this and it really makes me feel extremely sad and disappointed.

HDR gives a better picture quality. B&O are unable to supply a HDR compliant TV at this time. The only unknown is how many of these new TV's B&O will sell, some will buy oblivious to the omission, some will buy regardless while others will either wait or buy something else.
These are the facts, there's little point in throwing online tantrums about it, ... jeez, there are some folk who will argue with themselves in an empty room!
Ban boring signatures!

The Avant launching without HEVC was unfortunate but different to this case of the BV14. At the time the Avant came out the standard specs for 4K across the industry were in flux. So in a way I can understand them leaving HEVC off the Avant. One of the big reasons people are calling B&O out on lack of HDR on the BV14 is because the standard specs are now set by all the major TV manufacturers and they have just chose to ignore them.
The new wood frets is it just only for design?
Michael: And continuous debate about how it's nothing that matters?

I went through the same when Moment was launched. Why do you need a better tablet? Why you need 802.11n WiFi?
So I stopped discussing. :) In the meantime, Moment proved to be perfectly addressing "typical B&O customers' needs" and became a great success. Not.
TWG: and if the German lion thingy is even Made in Germany...

It is. <3
Back to BV14: I gave it another thought and figured out my problem is I don't have 10.000 EUR to cash out no questions asked, and then go for another TV in 2 years. If I would, I would buy it without hesitation as BV11/14 for me probably is THE most beautiful TV design I have ever seen.
Sadly, I am not a target B&O customer. :( (And that's mine, not B&O's problem)
koning: The new wood frets is it just only for design?
From what I saw inspecting it in the store, yes. It looks purely cosmetical.
Duels:Reflecting on the comments about the BV14. I wonder if this TV really is just something to keep some activity in the TV sector ahead of the new LG based range next year. It is an upgrade to the BL11 and so B&O should sell more TVs than would have been the case if there had been no change. Perhaps it had to be a very low cost facelift aimed at keeping a degree of interest over the next 12 months. Nothing more. Who knows, there may be an HDR version of it in the not too distant future. Interesting that it is called the BV14. Why 14 and not 16? Perhaps next year there will be a BV17. Just speculation of course.
Yes I also agree with your sentiments Duels.
B&O need to be seen to be releasing something every so often to try and keep interest but it could easily backfire, and be costly, because many (not all) potential customers know what they want and are waiting duly; specifically a 4K HEVC/HDR OLED BeoVision.
When paying a B&O price tag you want to feel its value for money - regardless of whether you can afford it easily or not - it's a matter of principal, not of expendable income.
My own concern is that the OLED they release next year will be a 1 or 2 year old set though and not even current as this seems to be there pattern, which we all so desperately want to see them change. I appreciate they need to bulk order a the panels in several months ahead to prepare them etc, but surely the process could be done within a 6 month period to be as up to date as possible? I am not in the industry and I know B&O is a smaller scaled company so I don't really know either way, just hoping.
Simon.
Picked up the following :
BV 14 can use the BV11 stands.
There will not be a wooden front for BV11 46". If you have the magnet on your BV11-40 and 55 you can use the BV11 wodden frets.
There are room for the AppleTV 4 in the BV14.
The structure of the cabinet is made more stable, to avoid glass breakage.
Gaskets around the panel is improved to avoid dust problem.
Picked up the following (part 2):
BV14 have no 3D. Avant will be the only 3D capable Beovision in the new Beovision Lineup (Avant, BV14, Horizon)
Automatic speaker calibration function is included but microphone is not.
Only one pair of BT headphones can be used at a time. BV14 is automatically muted. You can pair several headphones to one BV14.
WIFI support AC standard
You can assign a specific stand position to a "my button"
Thanks for the info, Hiort! Even though the BV14 isn't in the cards for me, I sure did wish the US had a trade in program, or something similar to the benefits of being a B&O owner in Europe.
In another thread a user mentioned that the grill would be about £800(UK). My gut said that was pretty steep, but then again, this is B&O, and they're not just single diameter frets with a frame, as are those for the BL18 -- maybe that justifies the price?
Isn't the grill almost the price of the motorized stand? Maybe the prices in my head are a bit off.
Also, doesn't the BV11 also have 3D capabilities? At least I think it does.
