Great review Lee. If only the 1 has appeared in 1988, the yuppy market would have loved it! I guess that generation are in their late 40s-50s now, so probably the exact market that will buy into this 'posh' SONOS system.

Design wise, the A1 for me is the best of the company's range. The leather strap (hopefully vegan, fake leather :) and round design work well.

A posh version of a sonos system is exactly how I see this part of the range.

I would love to see these available in copper, bronze, and brass finishes. I would absolutely need to replace my BeoLab 2000 in the kitchen with a copper BeoSound 1 or 2. I'm sure cooking magazines everywhere would be featuring the copper version if available.

Thanks MM.  I really like the Beosound 2 which from the article, it appears will someday be available in slate grey.  Looks like the cost in the US will be possibly $2000 USD.

As far as I can remember every new B&O product that comes out creates a rush of comparisons to other objects. I personally think they're a bit big for butt plugs. But then I don't know your friend.

All the new product are now on the Bang and Olufsen home page.  On the Beosound 2 there is an aux line in.  Maybe I will connect a Beogram turntable or a Beogram CD player which could be fun.

The specifications page on the B&O website for both the BS1 and 2 state "BeoMusic App" as the only remote control options. Did I read somewhere on these forums that they might also be able to be controlled via IR / BT (BeoRemote One, perhaps a Beo4 as well?)

I think that you should be allowed to own one Simon. Ladies handbags cost more than the price of a BS1 :)

Crazy world though isn't it, who would of thought 15 years ago that we'd be buying MONO hifi in 2016 but it's true, the market is dominated by it :)

Thank you Razlaw for the colour video.

I'm not here to glorify every product B&O brings to the market, and the new BS1 fells to me in the category of speakers paying a premium for some rather sumptuous Danish design.

What brings me to the second new product, the BS2 who I found more attractive, a lot more. The intricate grill gives this conical speaker a nice and better look and luckely there are also better specs here to find. Both speakers are capable to function in the Multiroom system and that's a big plus point, on the other hand none of the specs mentions you can control the basic functions by a remote (BeoRemote One  or BEO4). What I found a missed opportunity.

This new BS2 would for sure be a good looking piece of furniture to enrich my bathroom with some sparkling sound, but the lack of basic control from an ordinary remote would hold me back to justify the cost.

Very true Paul. I wonder if in 20/30 years someone will be showing off their new "stereo" pair of speakers and amazing their friends with how different the sound separation is compared to mono.

Just seen and heard the BS1 at Sheffield B&O. Have to say it looked and felt very substantial in real life. Tactile too as far as the volume control goes. The swipe control on top follows the swipe left for next track and right for previous track convention which I know has caused comment/discussion on here before. I tried it the other way first. Only tried a couple of tracks and sound was very clear. Looks a quality piece of kit.

Hi Ed

I wasn't expecting it to even be in the store.  I went to Richmond to have a look and see if they had a BV14. As soon as I entered they were like "OHMIGOD we have the BS1".

We were talking about it and I was mucking around with it, and I asked is it here or do i have to wait forever and place an order.  They said they had 1.  I left the store, sat in my car and then returned :-)

You can always expect excellent service at Richmond.

I was surprised they had one - i wasn't expecting it at all, and I really wasn't expecting to buy one and like it as much as i do.

The BV 14 was really good and I liked the interface.  in fact as soon as you press home at the bottom has all your usual things you would use like speaker connections etc.  I loved the new remote - it is an improvement especially some buttons are raised and the feedback when you press is better. I didn't like the wood lamelas on the BV14 with the wood lamelas on the 18s which were next to it.  It was too "woodsy" - maybe it was the wood tone that was wrong.  Who knows.

The BS1 is surprising.  I really love the design, Torsten did a lovely job, the feel is marvellous.  It is somewhat like a mini dahlek.  There are 3 little female screws in the base which may be for a future wall bracket or the like.  I am yet to work out how you work out what battery level the device is at without using the beosetup app.

Set up was easy and now i am wondering if i can use my wireless receiver 1 and set it up as a front left speaker with my avant.  In my multiroom setup on all 4 devices: a9, a6, BS1 and avant, i have set avant as the primary.  I suppose i could even put the BS1 in the bathroom so when i put the TV on in the morning and i can listen to sunrise as im getting ready - that may be overkill as i only spend very limited time in there.  Upandattem

When you turn the volume it has somewhat of (not really) haptic feedback.  When you run your hands down the sides it has a machined finish, and its delightful.  There is a little light on the speaker (thingy) and i wonder what that will be like at night.

At the moment I am running it on battery - i turned off the power and it didn't fault.

In terms of the sound, i think it is akin to the a6 - its very crisp.  I was using it in multiroom with the a9 and it was good together.

Im not an "ear" by any means and considering it is a mono it punches very well.  I was listening to some french disco earlier and then my deezer.

Looking at the power cord, it's your usual figure 8 - and i wonder why they didn't go down the USB C route so it's easy to pull out and put in - it might be because it needs to draw a certain amount of power, but i think that would have been neat, but it's no biggie as I'll have it plugged in.  For those that have seen my previous photos.  I'll be putting it on the "chicken coop" side table, next to my white leather Jimmy Possum chair so i can listen in comfort.

I have it on as a link speaker and i think it would make a good "presence" speaker in movies - so I'll try that tonight when i'm watching something spy with Tom Hanks.

I had it on my kitchen to see what it was like and it was better when it wasn't against the wall.

Connections wise it has power, ethernet. You could easily use it as a "master" for those members where it was a known term.

If this speaker was around when i bought the A6 i wouldn't have bought the a6 i would have bought this.  the A6 is great in my study, but it makes me think maybe i should re-arrange the configs.

At the mo, i have the a9 in the dining room (3.3m x 3m) the a6 in my study and the BS1 in the lounge room where my BL3s are.  Now i think i will sell my BL3s and have the BS1 instead in that room.  Not unless i get a BV14 or a Horizon in the lounge room and use the BL3s as rears (WISA).

A change to config might mean, put the a6 in the dining room (maybe on the wall - im nervous about putting things on the wall), a9 in the lounge, and the BS1 in the kitchen.

Also gets me thinking i could set the BS1 with the alarm function off in the morning - decisions, decisions.

Ok, back to the sound.  I find it crisp and willing.  It didn't bottom out when i cranked it up. I'm going to try the house channel and see what its like.

Its quite portable but not chuckable like the A2 is, and i reckon when i listen to the gardening show tomorrow morning (nerd alert) on the dining table as i'm eating pancakes at breakfast with my coffee strawberries and cream, i think it's gonna look like the ducks nuts!

Before i even used my BeoRemote one in a long press on the power, it turned everything off and i wasn't even using the avant.  Bonus!

Henrik:

Helge Lien Trio - Snurt. This is a demanding piece of music for any system, I think. The Beosound 1 handled it very well for its size.

Frøder - Wild. This is where the deepest parts of the bass disappeared. Other than that it sounded good.

Kåre & The Cavemen - Rock 'N' Roll Farmacia. This made me grin. There are so many instruments in there, and so much punch. The Beosound 1 managed this convincingly.

Thanks for the music references - I enjoyed the Helge Lien Trio for a whole album even though I did not find Snurt ! And also Kare & Cavemen ... my better half gave Frøder the thumbs down on looks alone Drinks

I did find a Snurt track under Fordivi - Tri O 'Trang which was very nice.

Aussie Michael - this again shows the value of trying things at home not just in store. I would never have thought the BS1 compared so well sound wise with the A6 after listening to it in store the other day. Congrats on the purchase, glad you like it.

Thanks Michael, that was quick !

A couple of clarifications please ...

Before i even used my BeoRemote one in a long press on the power, it turned everything off and i wasn't even using the avant.  Bonus!

The BeoRemote (IR) worked on the BS1 ?! or was the IR signal pickedup by something else in the NL network and that sent the long press power off to all multi-room devices ?

Did you try skipping via the remote ? [<] and [>]

I loved the new remote - it is an improvement especially some buttons are raised and the feedback when you press is better.

Ahhhhhh did you buy one !

And wireless right ?

Did you get DLNA access going ?

Gaz tried the Beo Remote One. He said to me "see I can make it work". The situation was there was no avant on - only the BS1 and the A9. He pressed on the power and both turned off. I haven't tried fwd or back with the remote.

I'm not sure if it was the BS1 but there are no other eyes for it to be seen.

The price in Aussie is just a little more than an a6 and less than an a9.

It is setup as wireless.

I'll teach ya Aussie. You'll be buttered on both sides mate 👍🏼
