I'm considering purchasing a second hand BV9, said to be 5 years old. What questions should I ask in terms of options available that were chosen at purchase? It was purchased in Australia.
It will replace a 7-40 Mk 1, that shall probably be shifted to another room, that will in turn displace a 6-26. I may sell the 7-40 instead, but the prices for it are so low I think I'll keep it. One reason for the purchase is that a larger screen size would be appreciated (it's in a large room and the 7-40 is just a little too small).
Sound: it will have BL5 front speakers and BL3 rear. I like the centre speaker of the BV9 as it has the same look with the acoustic lens.
One part of me is reluctant to go with old tech, but I have no realistic way of affording a new BV at any time in the next few years. Any thoughts or comments appreciated.
BV6-26, BV7-40, BL7.4, BL3, BL5, BS9000, BC1, ES1, Beo4, BeoPort

I think my first Blu ray movie shall be Bladerunner. Good music, lots of dark scenes to test the plasma...

Excellent choice! Both my favorite film of all time, and my gold standard to test black levels and contrast in TVs! Led me to buying my first Laser DIsc player back in the day, after the miserable, overly Macrovision protected, unwatchable VHS tape I bought of it!
One thing to check I suppose is the total hours on the panel, if the B&O has a service menu or such that might show that. But I would believe that the picture quality would be better than just about any LCD set. Natural motion and good black levels and shadow detail.

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus.
I have more information on the BL9 that I am thinking of getting. It's a Type 0796 and I'm told it's either a Mk4 or a Mk5. It is HD with 1080 and has a HDR built-in.
I guess the choice boils down to: do I put off the purchase and put the money towards a new B&O in many years time, or do I accept that financially second hand B&O stuff is all I shall be able to afford for the rest of my life (unless I get the lottery), with the risk of tech being already outdated and equipment failure being more likely?
It's actually a really tough decision.
If you like the way it looks picture wise, a B&O now is better than one later, at least to me. Bird in the hand is worth two in the bush kind of thing. At times I lack patience, if the delay is going to be long enough.
