I'm looking forward to seeing the red one Michael. I'm thinking it could be more of a rose colour to match my rose gold MacBook. I love that colour variety.

Hope you are excited for Thursday ;) ;) ;)

I sure am!

Thank you Duels. I'm concerned over the battery as the internet is full of people saying it lasts only 2 or 3 hours at a decent level. Certainly, some of the reviewers that I like have not been able to get anymore than 9 hours out of it. Hopefully B&O will fit a larger battery to it as their social media sites have people complaining about battery life on it too.

Having said that Duels, i've just got the iPhone 7 and the built in stereo speakers are very very nice. Great in the bathroom. I went for the 256GB version.

It's a big sound from a small box. The battery suffers when playing loud and I think it is also a matter of weight balancing. To heavy : less probable to bring with you. Too low battery : bad. Now it has a little of both. And it is quite cheap for a B&O sound experience. I think a portable battery charging pack is the best way to go - and then you don't really have to bring it when you don't need it either. And it can charge all of your devices and is easier to replace too.

It's way more deep and not like a colder red like tomato than the rose gold MacBook

The "Black Mirror" episode "Nosedive" describes Paul W perfectly.

Not a joke, and depends on what your definition of people is.

Took my A1 in Burgundy (not the color) for a family fiesta last week-end, everyone was impressed by the sound of it (and one person will buy it asap).

It was a three days trip so took the charger with me but didn't use it.

For occasionnal use (wich it is when you have a Beolit 15, Beosound 9000/lab 8000 and BV11 like me) battery life is far enough.

Nice to hear! By the way, BeoGreg, I thought only a cable was included, not a charger.

I bought one from Amazon for my bedroom (a four port charger so I can charge Apple Watch, iPhone and my A1 at the same time. As A1 has USB-C and that standard supports 5V/3A which means 15w instead of an usual maximum 12w over USB-B ports. I didn't buy one of those chargers yet since my other units rely on USB-B and I don't need quick charge in my bedroom but it could be interesting to see a portable speedier charger to use with A1.

Another important thing regarding the USB-C port is the problematic cable situation when dealing with power. USB-C has a design flaw when connected to devices that can't support the power demand of a USB-C device. If the cable is cheap or just bad it might let the device try to pull more power than is available = causing things to break down. For this not to happen some cables include a resistor that makes the device aware of being connected to devices that can't deliver as much power and makes the device pull less power. This is really a big issue and might cause a nightmare for A1 owners. More info here: http://www.theverge.com/2016/2/4/10916264/usb-c-russian-roulette-power-cords

I was cautious about this when I ordered a white cable for my A1 (I think it will look better on the night stand than a black cable, since the apple-cables are also white). I chose this one, since it has the necessary resistor inside it: https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-PowerLine-Resistor-Including-ChromeBook-White/dp/B01A6F8IUM

Thank you for that Michael. I see that it's a Anker. A gym friend of mine loves their iPhone glass protectors.

Being honest, with my Apple products, I only buy Apple cables & chargers - I bought the Euro charger from the Apple store last month whilst in Barcelona which I keep in my suitcase. A friend was talking about chargers yesterday whilst out cycling and I have to agree with him - why would anybody buy cheap cables or dodgy £3 chargers for a £800 iPhone? It just does not make sense? The UK iPhone charger is iconic in its design.

Aussie Michael, thank you for the colour advice :)

True about the cables but lightning cables is one thing. The USB-C cables is another. First off they are new, and A1 can be charged with which ever USB-C cable (for example, most people might have spare cables from old devices, or cameras etc today with micro usb, this will probably be the same with USB-C eventually). Since they all look the same you can't really say if it is safe or not to use. This is a new problem that hasn't really existed before.

Sure, lightning is different and since they are proprietary they more or less require you to buy one from Apple (Or another brand licenced to use it appropriately). But where do you go to buy a USB-C cable? It is generic.

The charging thing is something else. I don't buy cheap unsafe chargers either (I actually just use my real Apple chargers for now). But instead of having four separate chargers by my bed I wanted something simpler so I bought a good made four port charger instead. I will probably buy one with even more ports for my living room so my friends can all recharge when they are visiting. I also believe the A1 does not even come with a charger so that was also a major cause for buying a charger (I didn't get a charger with BeoPlay H8 either).

Agreed Apples chargers are beautiful, they are - but I need something to charge my B&O gear too, and four chargers in a row doesnt look too good unfortunately :).

Ah okey Smile. Well, the iPhone charger is just 5W so it takes three times as longer to charge the A1 than necessary since it can take up to 15W. The iPad charger is 12W so it comes much closer. But I guess all of the chargers will work quite fine, the battery inside is just 2200 mAh. The battery inside iPhone 7 is 1960 mAh and the iPhone 7 plus has a 2900 mAh battery for a comparison.

Cheers!

Interesting charger Michael. Reminiscent of a large jar of face cream with the top removed. I think it's a good idea to use the charger to match the product. My wife used the charger from her previous laptop on her new one and it became a bit hot .

A1 doesnt come with a charger. And as long as the charger is fully compatible I see no reason for not using a multi charger when I need more outlets. I'm just making an assumption now but I guess your wife had a MacBook Air or something and changed to a MacBook Pro or a bigger Mac? Then her old charger is either 45W or 60W whereas the new one pulls 60W or 85W. The charger will work, but charge slower - and it gets hotter since it has to deliver a constant flow of more power than the old computer required. It works but might damage it in the long run since it wasnt designed to deliver the full wattage at the extended periods which the new computer requires.

I can actually also make two examples of where it is better to choose another charger than the original one:
• iPad mini - comes with an iPhone charger, charges much slower than with a real iPad charger.
• iPad Pro 12,9" comes with an iPad charger (12W) but it can also use the new MacBook (2015 and later) charger with USB-C port, using a USB-C to lightning cable. The MacBook charger is 29W and the iPad charges up much quicker. The iPad charger actually charges so slow that if you use the iPad while charging, the battery will run out (!).

It is also quite common on the PC notebook side (on enterprise/professional laptops at least) that you can choose between either a small charger with less wattage or a bigger more heavy charger that instead charges quicker. A good choice I believe since you usually want short charging times, but while traveling probably a lighter charger. (I do usually bring a MacBook Air charger while travelling, because it is light and much smaller, and use my 85W when I can carry more stuff. (Both at home and work I charge my computer via my computer screen that has a built in 85W charger).

I'm confused.... I visited my B&O dealer yesterday to check out the A1 again. Incidentally, the BS1 was already playing when I walked it, and it was good enough that I wasn't sure which source was belting out the music - but that's another story.

Anyway, I'm interested in the deep red A1, but after looking at it, I don't believe it's the same one pictured on the Beoplay website. I read through this thread, and I still don't know what to think. This isn't "deep red" at all. It's more like a "powder-y pink/red". And all this mention of "dusty rose" made me go back to the website to double check that I didn't miss that B&O actually made that colour, and that I was actually looking at the wrong one.

I mean, look at the pictures on the Beoplay website... even the base of the deep red model is dark. The unit I saw in the store had a lighter coloured base, almost beige-like, which more closely resembled the base of the aluminium model.

Something just doesn't sit right with me. I don't think there's anything deep about the deep red at all - expect the bass.
