Maybe little bit to early but these days I asked myself what will be B&O reaction to next year 50th anniversary of the Beolab 5000 system.
If they planed any kind of retrospective to this system (which in my opinion in the middle of the 60’s actually made from B&O, that what it is today) they must be already in the middle of the realization. Any rumors? What is your opinion, what would be appropriate homage to this, even today stunning system?Would it be a nice book, invitation to special BL5000 event in to the B&O shops or even a reincarnation of the name as we saw it on few other products in the last years?Maybe they could try at least to make a poll via their Facebook site to ask people how many running systems are still around in more or less everyday usage?I only hope they didn't forget this important date...
Vintage Bang & Olufsen
I agree it would be nice for B&O to celebrate this excellent system.
Perhaps producing a book or feature about the history. Sadly, I somehow think it may just pass by without much fanfare.

+ 1.
I'd love to see some kind of celebration of the 5000 system, but I must admit my doubts of anything materializing...
I would be happy to borrow my system for display if asked.

To lend it, you mean! Well, mine is not going anywhere
Jacques
We could lend them some pics of our renovated systems , any of ours will look better than the ones they have in Struer Museum
Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

I hope not.
I await at least some kind of homage, sign of respect to their heritage. The book would be fine, special events in their shops even more...
Of course, it must not be with much fanfare, maybe a pair of BV5000 instead

That's sure, Soren
Do they have a complete system (BM/BL 5000, 2xBV5000, 1xBV3000, 2xBV25000 and Stereo Width Box) in Struer at all? Do you by any chance have any photos of it?
Cheers,
Theomaster
P.S. Maybe Frede is preparing for the 50th anniversary in silence. For example he could offer few copies of his Beolab 5000 system in black, limited series...

I had pics from Struer, a lot, but all lost as my laptop and my phone got stolen, if I remember right the BL/BM 5000 are there without speakers, but I am not sure about it, there is a lot to look at in the museum, what I do remember is that my system looks way better than the one in the museum, when I saw it I really felt bad, the fronts looked like nobody ever tried to clean them, the dials all yellow and push buttons dusty.
I will have to go there again by my next DK visit, I used about 2 hours there and took a lot of pics, between these pics was pics of all the models I have here, the idea was to make an optical comparison but because of the water damages to the house, it was put on the waiting list, and later on my phone and laptop was stolen
Hello Soren & BS5000-fans...
that's the way the BS5000 in Struer's museum looked like in 2012:
No detail pictures taken, though

OK, now we are already deep in 2017 and I still hope there will be a sign from B&O for the Beolab 5000 50th anniversary.
Somehow I think the new Beosound Shape could be seen as a reincarnation of the Beovox 2500 Cubes.
Somebody who agree?
And maybe the coming Beolab 50 can be seen as reincarnation of Beovox 5000 than?
In this case only BL/BS 5000 Combo still need its representative "follower"
Celebrating a true classic.
The Beolab 5000 is 50 years in April 2017.
Beolab 5000 was presented by Bang & Olufsen back in April 1967 – this is now 50 years ago.
The Beolab 5000 design is classic and timeless.
Bang & Olufsen wanted a product expressing "power, precision and identity".
That was the task for the engineers and designer Jacob Jensen.
The Beolab 5000 System was Jacob Jensen’s first assignment for Bang & Olufsen.
The Beolab 5000
This is the Bang & Olufsen paper presenting the Beolab 5000 system – April 1967
Thanks for the announcement
Despite humans something is hard to kill. Hope someone will tape the 100 years anniversary celebration giving some of us the possilibility to view it at our return!
Glad to have the complete set
Still one of the best systems made by B&O and years ahead of its time. Use mine regularly and it is great.
Peter
I also have the complete set, all restored by Frede at Classic Audio.
I am proud to own it, and proud to be looking after it for the next generation to enjoy. Products like this need to be saved.
Happy Birthday BeoLab 5000 !!! Lee
Thanks for the post Frede. What a great design.sonavor
My first set restored went to Piaf, the second set from Henrik is waiting for restoration
They knew how to celebrate (with) their Beolab 5000 ...
Why don't we on Beoworld plan something? If we know the rough date of the system being introduced (I am sure Frede can probably tell us to the nearest minute!) the why not plan a trip to Struer and Venø to mark the occasion? We probably have about a year.
We could make a book of our systems and have photos and descriptions of how we got them and where they are now - easy enough to do.
My system has seen different incarnations in its time - this was a short lived version prior to its full restoration as seen by the poor finish of the wood and the wonky volume numbers.

Very good idea Peter. The Book with title like "Beolab 5000 - 50th anniversary - Beworlder's Beolab 5000 Systems", with photos and descriptions of our systems would be really nice homage to this anniversary, at least from us. Only thing: if I understand correctly the anniversary is now in April and we do not have one year? But anyhow, if we would manage to finish this book till end of the year, it would be for sure not to late. Trip to Struer is always a good idea, with or without reason
If we decide to do this, everybody who want to participate should write a short description / story about his/her Beolab 5000 system and somebody should collect them to the book. I think it should be native english speaker who eventually could look to or correct the text. It would be also nice if somebody has experience with book-design and are willing to pack the thing into the appropriate look.
So I am in. I will start to write a story about my Beolab 5000 and to make few photos in the next days...
At the moment my BL5000 is sitting hidden in the sideboard but for the beginning here is a pic of it as I got it 4 years ago...
Happy Birthday!
I must admit that a lot of hi-fi passes through my hands but, alongside the Beolab 8000 system, I can't see my Beomaster 5000 and Beolab 5000 ever leaving. In addition, I am also the proud owner of the Acoustical version of Beogram 3000 (yes, I know it's a '3000' not a '5000' but it's definitely '2000 better' than its number suggests!)
Most excitingly, a recently acquired pair of Beolab 5000 Mk3s are in my parents' garage awaiting restoration - just the Beovox 2500s to find...
Hi Adam
Depending upon your living there's nearly allways some to buy - in Denmark e.g. Lauritzdotcom
Regards, Leif
elephant: I've provided my story ... "I fell in love with B&O when I saw a BeoLab 5000 system owned by the Greek father of friend of mine. It was 1967 and I was 17 at the time, and slide rule look in the era before the first Texas Instrument hand held electronic calculator appealed to my nascent geekiness. And the wonderful tweeter speakers were such a different solution - and their design was so space age as they looked like satellites."

Nice story. Of course it would be even better if you would have a photo of you and your friend at age 17 staying hypnotized near to "do-not-touch" Beolab 5000
I realized that we actually have two threads with same topic (Beolab 5000 - 50th anniversary). It would be nice to join them anyhow together if it is possible by one of our Admins...

You need the Thorens version - I have both but the Acoustical version is on long term loan. The Thorens is hewn from solid. Frede also specialises in these!

I am perfectly happy to collate this - I may get back in touch with Tim as I am sure he will be interested. My wife is an English teacher so we have a proof reader!
Of course, those of us lucky enough to have a Classic Audio 5000 system already have a wonderful Beolab 5000 book as well as a folder produced by Frede. Everything about the 5000 and individual test certificates for the items one owns. Quite frankly, it would be difficult to better that.

Thanks Admin for putting these two threads together!

Well, I certainly wouldn't turn one away if it came up at the right price, but that price seems to be an issue! Anyway, I have a Thorens TD-224, so dont really need a 124 as well!
