Hello, here in the states I am having a pair of beovox s45s delivered to me needing replacement foam surrounds. Every seller on eBay can't answer a straight up question. I called a fellow he says they were made with 2 measurements of cones, and if they are not the 6" type I am screwed because nobody on earth makes them and I have to buy completely new woofers the another seller says he has some to fit models with 8" cage, I cannot measure because they are being delivered as I write this. Can someone please tell me what the deal is please? Also I've heard bang and olepheson is great stuff. I recently sold my bose hts system, bought another on a deal. There are tons of bose haters out there, and after my second system, I agree there not what most people claim, that they are the best. How do these s45s sound? Superior to comparable bose models? All I know about the beovox s45s I'm buying is that everything is fine, drivers, stands, cabinets, and I bought them for 10 U.S. $. Thank you in advance for any info provided. Sincerely, Rick.

Beovox S45 (Type 6427) uses woofers close to 8" size (some "generic" 8" surrounds will fit better than others). Type 6427 will all have foam
rot by now if not already repaired.
Beovox S45 (Type 6302) and Beovox S45.2 (Type 6312) both use apprx the same size woofer but of a completely different brand with
rubber surrounds, not rotting.

No Beovox S45 models use 6" woofers.

Unfortunately, lots of Ebay sellers are listing items with dubious descriptions based only on "something they've heard somewhere".
I still see belts for Beogram 1201 and 1204 listed (there never were such models), and when one seller starts, others follow like sheep -
and, if asked, none of them will know what they sell and what it fits.

Fell asleep and accidentally hit send. Question - were a lot of s45s produced with the supposed 5" worthless cone? Just how nice are these things, and how do you hook up the strange plug ins, would you buy them. I hope there not overrated, overhyped like my bose system from the past. Thanks a lot

Question: Did you read my answer above?
Frankly, if you can't be bothered reading my answers, I cannot be bothered giving them.

But here once again (and try to stay awake this time):
There are three types of Beovox S45 speakers. Type 6302, Type 6312 and type 6427.
If yours have foam rot, my guess is that they are Type 6427. The serial number label will tell.

All Beovox S45 models use 8" woofers. Period!
No Beovox S45 models  use 5" woofers.
Where did you read about "worthless 5" woofer cones in these models"?  - I really would like to know that.

That "strange" plug (the 2-pin DIN speaker plug) is actually the only international standard plug for home speakers.
- Everything else is "strange" and non-standard.
Pin is positive, spade is negative. Adapters to non-standard amplifiers (that's the ones with no DIN speaker sockets) can
be found on Ebay and elsewhere.

Beovox S45 overrated ?
The 6302 and 6312 are merely medium-sized livingroom speakers of the 1970s. They are generally considered some of the best balanced speakers for their size and age, but the higher models in the series are of course better, larger, louder, heavier and were more expensive new.
The 6427 is the lowest model in the whole 1980s series. It performs quite well in its own respect and many owners like them a lot, but they are
obviously not comparable to the top models in the series.

How nice they are?
Eh... apprx 42, I would say.

Would I buy them?
No. But that's because I have a few hundred B&O speaker pairs already.
However, if I needed decent sounding speakers for a small-midsized livingroom, I would look for a nice pair of Type 6302 or 6312.
