Considering that both the BV14 and Beovision Horizon have been out for several weeks there's been very little feedback on this forum! Does anyone have either and is in a position report how they have got on? Or is everyone hanging on for the anticipated new TVs next summer?
I am in the market for a new B&O TV and would like to purchase this side of Xmas. I have been very disappointed with 'android' in the past (albeit with a tablet), hence I am particularly interested in the new android interface and whether the SW runs well?
Anyone?
It was (on the forum) posted that a (major) software update was due this week - for bug fixing and new functions (e.g. the multiroom support).
Was this sw rolled out?

There is a tv - and there is a BV

No software update on my BV14 yet (just checked)
Current version is buggy... Need to enter my pincode couple of time a week, sometimes a number of times a day, the Android part crashed regulary "services cuz stopped responding", sometimes I get the Android logo plastered al over the screen when the TV is starting and I have the feelings that some sound settings are "on" onscreen, but have no effect (BL11 not working in a sound only (radio/itunes) situation.
This all sounds bad (it fact.. it is...) BUT BUT...
The bluetooth remote works as charm, the interface of the TV is very responsive, picture and sound wise: excellent!
So I hope that the software update irons out these bugs... and that it will bring back Netflix as a default app on the TV
Many thanks for the update kuyttendaele.
The Android problems sound slightly worrying, so fingers crossed that the SW update will resolve and get it running as a B&O TV should.
So should I wait a few more weeks or try to find one of the last BV11s?
@Guy
That depends on your preferences.
If you don't mind the marriage with Google for your tv, you should probably wait and go for a14/Horizon.
There are some really good new things about those new tv's.
However, if Google/Android is not your 'thing', go for a BV11 (preowned?) - it is a mature tv.
Hi guys,
I have had the Horizon for a few weeks now! I honestly love it. Android TV is not something I was very happy about, but having used it, it is not as terrible as I thought it would be. Pic quality is amazing. I had a BV8-40 and thought the sound of the Horizon was too much a downgrade so I bought a sub with the Horizon (BL14).
On the software side of things I really hope the update of this or next week is gonna solve a lot of minor bugs. It is not like I can't use my TV , but the bugs make it's use annoying sometimes. Kuyttendaele, you can solve the PIN issue by disabling the PIN in the settings according to my dealer.
This is my first 'new' BV and I'm very glad with my purchase. Now hunting down some speakers to add to the BV14 Sub. Thinking BL3 - BL14 - BL17. My room is not too big so I don't want speakers that are very present. Any suggestions?
Regards, Roy

mr_anders_son:Next week they will role out the new software with many bugfixes! Its amazing TV(BV14-55) and I am for sure it will be a big improvement and B&O working on to improve it more coming month. One thing I am little worried about is the picture quality. Many times the picture is very blueish in the dark parts. This was perfect on my BV11-55. Hope this been solved to next week update!!?

I know.. that's what my dealer told me too.. But.. what's the use of a pincode it it's disabled? If there's a pincode then I want to have it enabled; end of story... and it should work as all previous pincodes in B&O products.. not at random.
Karel.
I've had a BV14-55 for a few weeks now ( a month i think).
Quick note re software and updates - yes the OS has been a bit buggy. First time i;ve bought a first release, so been a bit annoying - similar issues to those mentioned above, all of which have been fed back to B&O. So, yes PIN code issues (I've turned mine off), occasional unresponsiveness of the OS / menu system, though by far the biggest issue i have had is the sound cutting out, remedied by powering on and then off, which i regard as pretty unacceptable really, but assured it will be fixed in the upcoming (week 41 update as its called). The update next week will not bring multi-room, that arrives late November, and thats not guaranteed, its more to clean up the operation of the current functionality, so will be welcome in that sense.
In general though the OS is clean enough, and still retains the simplicity of what you would expect from B&O, albeit with a bit of Android nonsense thrown in. Its not the mess i thought it would be at all, playing with settings is very straight-forward, and i don't use any of the Android TV apps, but use external boxes. The Android TV apps look terrible to me - some look bad beyond belief, example being the TuneIn Radio app, which looks like something with 10 minutes of coding experience wrote. Spotify is better, but still poor compared to the Fire TV version. YouTube is fine, but again not as slick as the Apple Tv or Fire TV versions, but useable. Android TV is still young, so may get better, but i wouldn't hold my breath. ** i would add that Googlecasting to the BV14 is a very nice feature....
I'll address the sound first - this all depends on your individual use case of course, but i use mine in my bedroom, which measures about 6m*5m. The sound is pretty good i think for my bedroom, its certainly the best i;ve heard on a standalone TV, and at times i;ve been impressed by the range and separation it can produce. Not sure i will need to add the nearby A9 into the mix, once the multi room becomes enabled.....occasionally i guess, but not often. I like volume a bit louder than most people i know, but i've rarely if ever gone past half way on the volume scale (generally its on between 45-50 vs max 90). If i had the BV14 in my lounge, personally i would be adding speakers, but i like a big room filling sound.
As for picture quality, i'm an avowed plasma man (its just not the same all round performer that my BV12-65 is), and as my first LCD/LED i've had to tweak a couple of settings to get rid of the aspects of LCD/LED i dislike. Mainly the judder cancellation, so the horrible soap opera effects are minimised. Generally its a very good picture, Sky Sports HD looks great, yes its not as rich colour palette wise as my 12-65 to my eyes, but its good. Dont watch much SD coverage so can't judge its ability too much.
As for non-Sky sources - much the same really, Netflix HD and 4K look very good - no one should have any real complaints here. Not all of the 4K content looks the same - Netflix have some nature-type 4k shorts that look really superb, though at the same time watching a UDH show on Amazon Prime didnt look much of a step up, and occasionally a few of the darker scenes looked wrong - whether it was the content or the BV14 i didn't know. Generally not had problems of this nature though.
All in all, i wouldnt go for a BV11 - the BV14 looked better to me on the same HD content when i spent some time in the showroom.
Anyway, pretty happy, short term bugs notwithstanding. Does the job i want it to, looks fantastic, and the sound is obviously better than other TVs. Looking at the LG E6/G6 (i.e. with HDR), does make me salivate for what HDR can do on an OLED, they're just amazing, but no hurry there. All the conversations i have had with B&O suggest the B&O /LG screen is far from certain for 2017, as questions remain over the longevity of OLED screens....
Anyway, apologies for the length of post....
Many thanks for such an extensive report Sandy - certainly food for thought and an interesting comparison with your other TV. It'll be very interesting to see if the SW update resolves all the teething problems - I really hope so. I also presume that the Horizon is suffering with the same issues.
I am not too fussed about the clunkiness of the Android TV platform and its Apps (I too will use mostly external boxes: ATv4, PS4 etc) but I would like it to run smoothly and without the PIN code problems and sound issues mentioned.
Looking forward to an update in a week's time!
EDIT: Forgot to ask - is the PUC control OK? Smooth and fast, with enough functions?
No problem - the teething problems will be sorted i have little doubt, i wouldnt overplay them, just a tad annoying for a 6k tv unit. The sound issues are relatively rare, so hasn't got in the way too much. Wishing the multi-room wasn't so delayed, as i can't fully connect to my matrix and have full multi room, but such is life......
As for my picture quality comments, i try to be objective, and stand by my view that (a) the 14 > 11 and (b) the BV14 is very good, but (c) the BL12-65 is by some distance a better picture to me. Haven't yet tried Blu-Ray on the BV14, as i can't connect the BV14 to my matrix.
And despite my comments about the amazing PQ of the LG E6 i was in Selfridges the other day, out of all the hundred+ TVs that were on display, nothing compared to the BV14 style, design and presence wise......for the record, if my bedroom space had allowed, would have got a second 12-65 + pair of BL18s or 3s......
Meanwhile very much looking forward to hearing the BeoSound 2, could be perfect for my home office.....
I have the Horizon. Really like how it looks on the wall. It has some softwarebugs as mentioned but its a nice TV. Dealer said that multiroom will be added next month. Picture quality very good. A very nice overall package.
Beovision 11-55, BeoPlay V1 40, Beosound 9000, Beolab 8000's and 3 Beocom 5's...
Gennaro:Just curios, does the new BT Beoone remote control a PS4? Beovision 11-55, BeoPlay V1 40, Beosound 9000, Beolab 8000's and 3 Beocom 5's...
Sandyb: Do you have the same problem as me as picture I posted??
not like that no....regular HD content from Sky has been absolutely fine....the only issue i have had, picture quality wise, is with something i watched on Amazon Prime.....a couple of dark scenes looked badly defined, no blue bands per se, but definition wasnt good.....i'll post a picture later....

There is no multi room of any kind....so the matrix capability is greyed out, and from an audio point of view swell the BV14 does not appear in any of the Beo apps......so can't audio share the BV14 to my A9 for example.....all of this will follow in the November update (though again, the November update is estimated date)........the lack of matrix ability may not bother some, the lack of audio sharing will likely bother more people for now.......long story short, all of the usual functionality will arrive, and is set up on the OS in a very similar way to the previous environment, just that bits of it will be enabled later.......
you can google cast to the TV i think......

A self paid christmas gift for the owners of the new tv's ;-(
agreed, and viewed from a certain angle, it is surprising B&O can get away with releasing a slightly incomplete product....you wouldnt buy a 911 with 6th gear missing a future update.......anyway, maybe other set makers do as well, though i suspect not, but there you go....but again on the other hand, given the sound and multi room functionality (eventually) i'm prepared to be patient.......its a mighty fine looking tv after all......
mr_anders_son:There will be a sw update for Beoremote one BT done via Beovision 14/Horizon to.
For the TV & remote? Oooh boy... I hope they have tested this to Pluto and back!
Has the update been released today?
(I have a 14-40 in the bedroom and a Horizon 48 going in and need Atlona matrix support...)

I had a look at both the BV14 and BVH side-by-side at my Dealers yesterday.
Didn't play, didn't operate anything, didn't listen to the sound.
Simply put, the BV14 blows the BVH out of the water picture-wise. I think 99% of that is to do with the anti-reflection glass on the BV14 and the absence on the BVH. I was thinking the BVH was a bargain right up to that point. Now I think not.
The BV14 with the wooden slats is too messy, too distracting and too expensive IMHO. Fabric is better.
The 14-40 is installed (black fabric, and beautiful) but now you have me worried about opting for the H48? Should I have stretched to the Avant 55?
had a response from B&O support......end of this week, early next week at latest.....re software update...
Updating now! #fingerscrossed
