BV14 and Beovision Horizon - any feedback?

Can't see much new?

BLGW app appears on the TV menu, and now on my remote....with no option to remove it?

More control in the Beomusic app, but no control in the X app, unless I am missing something...

Here's what I found so far:

- BLGW on the remote ... but I don't have Gateway... and I can't remote the item on the remote.

- Some UHD HDMI settings.

Probably more stuff but that what I found at first sight...

- Song title on screen when connected to NL source (no artist name, as on other non android NL tv's)

- Netflix app worked (could be one time only)

- Start pattern play from Moment starts tv up correctly

- Sub kicks in correctly after selecting relevant speaker group

and in the BeoTool app the tv still cannot check for software and therefore red dot remains appearing

Netflix worked for me yesterday after the update.. But there's a good chance that it stops working with the all familiar error....

This and the limited download capacity is why I changed from TV-provider a while ago, now it's integrated in the decoder I get from the new provider. And working without errors...

Yes, the bass management is finally how it should be! And also the picture processing has been improved again. Side-effects are almost gone now. This can be noticed when the camera is following a moving object (like when watching sports) or fast action scenes in movies. We are getting there!

I got the update to my BV14 as well. I have a BLGW but the app doesn't do anything. Just makes the picture go darker likes its loading something but doesn't.

LIGHT and CONTROL commands still not being sent through to BLGW.

Can't edit the contents of the LIST menus on the remote. Buttons occasionally miss the release command like you're holding it down so I have it scrolling all the way through a menu. Last night it did this with volume and went all the way to full! Generally except for for the physical differences to the buttons the remote is a MASSIVE step down from the IR version. If the TV had an IR receiver I would put it in that mode.

I love B&O stuff but this TV is an embarrassment and I'm getting more and more unhappy as time goes on. In terms of software it works worse than if I'd bought a £150 TV but it was 50 times that. I'm going to be wanting more than just a replacement from B&O. I'd say we're all being kind because of our loyalty but it's an awful awful product that they should never have put out for sale. My BV11 has all features and works perfectly. The BV14 has been out for over a year now (I think). Not cool. Sad

Oh no Chris, what have we let ourselves in for !!! I apprehensively ordered an Avant the other day. After posting on here asking for user experiences, the response was almost zero. I therefore must assume that several folks are not amused, with their TVs incl. remotes etc.. Alternatively how impartial are the folks on this forum, or have we all turned into B&O zombies? By the way, the delivery quote by my B&O dealer (or more exactly their service technician) is 600 Euros, not exactly a bargain - the B&O store is 400 meters away from my house. At the same time my lovely working BV5 gets carted away - oh sorrow. Why am I experiencing no joy in buying this product, only fear that I have been conned!!!

I would say this, as a BV14 owner.

The software experience has been poor, though seems much more stable now. As for the remote, i dont regard it as a step down particularly (and i have an infra red version for my lounge TV)....i haven't had the problems described above, the residual problem i have is that the source specific functions sometimes don't get sent to the TV on startup, so requires reselecting the source on the remote, and its fine from there. Generally though the TV software doesn't seem to crash very much at all, once in the last few weeks for me....i suspect thats as much an Android thing. If you have low patience for quirks as described, then you will have to think about the above....reviews of Sony TVs also mention software crashes.....

My main issue is not the above, as its relatively trouble free compared to last September / October.......its more the screen / panel type in the new TVs....watching sport in HD is pretty damn good, but watching dramas where there are dark scenes, the TV really struggles.......and this doesn't seem to have been addressed......and halo-ing as the camera pans rapidly isn't good at all......

As as result of this, i am swapping it for an Avant (not Android), and hoping that the above 2 image issues are better with the original Avant's which were locally dimmed as opposed to the globally dimmed new screens (which are more vivid, but hobbled by the above from my 6m experience so far).....

Tried to be objective above, even though my lounge Tv is a BV12-65 which is still amazing, and issue free......

Big Smile thanks to you all for your responses, much much appreciated. I'm sticking to my guns, ordered is ordered. I suppose that I am also sad to loose my old friend the BV5. What sets so many of us Beo types apart is that we are absolutely uncompromising regarding quality. My folks would drop down dead - aghast at what I'm paying for a TV, one questions ones own sanity at times, which is probably a healthy thing anyway Wink. I will stop googling screen types and dooms day crap and just simply enjoy the massive privilege of owning another B&O friend in my house. Will let you all know how it goes. Fingers crossed!

Netflix on Horizon 40....   Confused

(no Updates, since Version 5.0 is only for "compatible devices")

What are your tricks?

So far my best chances are:

 

  1. unplug tv, plug in again
  2. try Netflix
    1. If it works Beer
    2. If it doesn't:
      1. open many apps (like Kodi, Youtube, Games, etc. at least four or five apps
      2. try again
  3. repeat until Beer

Do you have any shortcuts?

On my Horizon I noticed the poor black levels too, no detail and almost to bad to watch dark scenes. After some testing I found out that when I switch of the contrast enhancement under picture modes - general, the tv is slightly brighter and shows much more detail, especially in dark scenes. To my eyes the difference is hugely noticeable. Tested it with the opening scene of Star Wars The Force Awakens: With enhancement on (even minimum) the picture shows almost no detail. When switched off you can see every detail.

Maybe this works for you too.

The picture settings feel limited on the android OS but have great influence on the quality. Every software update the picture feels more alive, hopefully B&O gets it 100% in the end.

Halo-ing is still an issue, gets better also but not there yet. Maybe someone has found a work around on this matter?

From all the times I've tried opening the Netflix app it succeeded only three times or so. Hope there is a work around but I'm not to hopeful.

you're right....for some reason i stopped playing around with the settings a while ago, can't quiet remember why.........just switched it off as suggested, much better from my initial test.....

I sometimes hear a plop and the sound is gone and subsequently the television reboots or I have to switch it off. I had this issue a few times before the latest update, but it happened three times (in two weeks) since the latest update.

More correct...my third set...no the current BV14 is the panel faulty...se my earlier post of the screen...

Good afternoon,

Concerning the halo around objects problem, could you check if the artifact also occurs with these high quality 4K video files? If yes, there is definitely a problem with the video processing.

These are sample files from the latest Canon camcorder and should be exempt of the compression artifacts of TV broadcasts or even Blu-Ray discs.

You could also test if the built-in media player of the BV-14 is able to play these files directly. Download the two last files (Caution: 1.5 Gb for both)

Hi all. BV14 is awful. Full stop. Non of what is being said here should happen with a £7k tv. Not acceptable. I'm going to be swapping it or something and also expect compensation. I've (rightly so) had friends laughing at my tv when I've not been able to turn it on and have had to pull the plug out for 10 seconds. This is one of many many many problems I'm still having.

That's a shame, mine has been pretty stable the last month or so.....

That said, I've swapped mine ( not sure temporarily or permanently as yet) for an Avant (pre-NG) a few days ago...largely for picture quality reasons, not so much stability

And have to say the Avant (pre-NG) is a better screen as we stand, largely because it doesn't have the motion processing issues that the BV14 still has...much happier now, it produces an excellent image.......not as good looking a design though, but that aside there's no competition...
