I miss my BV11! Which I pointed out in a very polite and disappointed sounding email to B&O customer services today. A section of which is here if anyone's interested...

----------

To summarise some of my worst experiences with the television;

- As mentioned it will sometimes not switch on unless unplugged at the wall.

- It has started up a few times with no sound.

- I get stuttering on video from a variety of sources.

- An incredibly long startup time compared to the BV11 (yes I do have the power save settings setup correctly) and often the TV will startup on the wrong input then after the screen as turned on it will then switch to the correct one in a rather undignified manner.

- Many sync issues between the remote and the TV including source lists, LIST lists, the MyButton commands (I cannot seem to wipe/edit the MyButtons as well which is very frustrating).

- The worst sync issue of all is sometimes it doesn’t seem to pickup on a ‘release’ command on buttons so has turned the volume up to full a few times an regularly will scroll to the very end of a menu on my Apple TV etc.

- Generally poor performance of all menus and interactivity on the system including the TV guide appearing (it took 5 seconds last night). One of the most upsetting representations of this is the famous B&O ‘curtains’ stutter as they open on startup.

- Many features from the BV11 are missing including setting what is available in the LIST menu for each source along with settings for stand position on each source.

- The BV14 does not pass through LIGHT or CONTROL to my BLGW as my BV11 used to and all B&O products should do on their release - not months later. Currently I have a weird BLGW App option on my remote which does nothing but messes up the colour on the currently viewed source. It also does not seem to be accepting commands from the BLGW or does very very occasionally.

- Very odd and very visible artefact ‘halo’ around moving elements on a picture. I find it insanely distracted when watching things now.

- Not as good as the BV11 when working in a multi-room music environment - sometimes doesn't join my Essence at all and doesn’t work with the latest B&O Music app yet.

- The BV14 seems to also cause problems with my Essence MKII sending LIGHT and CONTROL commands to my BLGW. I have exactly the same setup (including the same Luxul 1750 router) before I bought the BV14 and everything worked fine. The Essence now for some reason occasionally shows the BLGW as it’s service name (the complicated email address) and nothing is passed. If I leave it it occasionally seems to just start working again, or if I restart the Essence a few times it might begin working again. This means I cannot rely on my IR Beoremote One or BeoTime in my bedroom (where the Essence is) to control my Hue lights. Incredibly frustrating when just wanting to switch the lights off to go to sleep.

Seem to be less halos. Still missing most of the features I've listed before and no BLGW integration yet etc etc.

Oh and after the update I had no picture on TV tuner until I turned it off at the wall for a while.

Brilliant!

Hi Stuart, Do they pass LIGHT and CONTROL commands through to the BLGW?

Motion processing seems to be much improved in the update that came out yesterday. Anyone else discovered other improvements?

Hi Chris

Currently away in France until Tuesday and will be able to confirm more then, but yes it does. You need to enter the TV service menu and activate the BLGW. Then in the BLGW webpage ensure you untick legacy commands for control.

Yup. Think I've done all that. Doesn't work. Also the LIGHT and CONTROL options rarely show up when I press LIST on the BeoRemoteOne BT. They appeared a moment ago, but have disappeared again. I also hate that there are loads of things in the LIST menu that I don't want and can't remove or edit!

Hi Chris

Back from a mini break today and can confirm that the new TV's do accept LIGHT and CONTROL commands. I have a macro in the showroom for all on and all off which is Light 0 or Light 1. When I select the Horizon 40 on the BR1 list I can then highlight Light within List and simply press 1 or 0 respectively.l and it works perfectly.

Best regards

Netflix never ever works on my BVH (have been able to use it for 5 times now, only directly after new sw install).

I keep thinking that Netflix should be working properly, if only because it then play's 4k content, as my appletv is not!

Wishfull thinking and in line with recent discussions regarding spotify failure on the BS5 platform. Such a bad publicity for B&O.

My faith in the company is being tested heavily; many flaws in current directions.

But on topic again regarding BV: after last update picture really has improved a lot. I now find myself surprised on the bright and clear pictures it delivers. Also haloing is now so low I only notice it sometimes and then it is not as annoying as it used to be. Thumbs up!

I still encounter problems with Multiroom/NL part. Starting patternplay or normal music session on Moment does not activate the TV (and speakers), only works when booting up the tv first.

Other improvement might be the sound richness, if the tv sound was a little bit more powerfull.. but that might be just be the difference between BVH and BV14.. no software issue.

Regarding stability, also big improvemend. Dis crash only once after last SW update.

Conclusion after one week: still out the woods! Good job, please continue tweeking it till perfection!

Hi Chris

I had noticed that two of our TV were not displaying Light & Control. To retrieve these back into the BT remote I had to power cycle the TV's. hope this helps

Hi!

Is it possible to play music directly through the B&O app to the Horizon? Just like you can do with the BS1 och Essence? To get music in my living room today I have to start the music in the bedroom och kitchen and then use the BeoRemote to add (anslut) the TV to an existing source. It is a bit annoying as some times you just want music in your living room...

Best regards!

I hope they make some more adjustments. The TV operates far from smooth since the June update when using the latest versions of the Youtube and Deezer apps. Moreover stability, though improved, is still (it is a year since introduction) not what it should be.

Since last Update, Netflix isn't working here in Switzerland at all.

Now I stream Netflix via Chrome-Browser-Mirroring from PC... It works quite well...

Netflix appears to be included on the new Eclipse. The remote has a specific button for Netflix. Does this mean that the BV14 & Horizon will follow (although they do not have specific buttons on the remote)?

In order to have the Netflix app working Netflix demands a remote with the logo on it. The BV14/Horizon are not delivered with a Netflix logo remote... so probably no native working Netflix app :-(

The BV14 was just within my budget... The Eclipse is out of budget... Designwise I find the BV14 more attractive than the Eclipse.. But like the design of the Eclipse..

Does anyone knows when the September update for BV14/Horizon can actually be expected?

Wishlist still to improve:

- further improvement of motion handling

- full Multiroom support

- Bug fixes for use with Moment (such as start playing / patternplay / artist titles on screen)

- NETFLIX PLEASE !

- fine tuning certain opening / closing

- fine tuning preventing android crashes (almost there)

Good question!

Probably they are happy to be on that platform.

Demanding a 'button' would maybe cause being banned from the OS.

Apple is a BIG player in this game.

Considering Horizon after reading about the new FW.

I cannot find this info anywhere, so I'll ask here:

Does the Horizon contain any fans?
Is it *absolutely* silent, when the speakers are muted and you put your ears 20-30 cm from it in a quiet room?

I'm asking because my current tv is absolutely silent when muted. No hiss, no humming/whining, no fan noise (fanless). Nothing. I bought it because of that.

If you plug in an external hard drive, you can hear that (more or less 24/7!). The TV itself is silent.

I talked to a dealer the other day about whether he knew about a Horizon 2018 refresh. That won’t happen for sure he reported. He had been told B&O are commited to keep fixing the Horizon FW until it’s ‘done’.

I’ll wait and see before I buy.

Since the latest FW update last week the Horizon is now 100% imo. Quicker, very stable and no blurring. Also Multiroom fully integrated in app. BV14/Horizon are now what they should be at introduction.

Regarding Netflix, much said about on this forum, is not happening due to license issues between Netflix and B&O, only available now on the LG based Eclipse.

I really enjoy my Horizon now and the android has grown on me. Hopefully the BV14/Horizon will not be end of live very shortly.

I also asked my dealer about the longevity of the Android platformed TVs given the Eclipse is WebOS.  Of course, he is going to say that the Androids are not going away any time soon otherwise he would not sell them except on a large discount (which is why I was interested Smile), but his reasoning was believable to me.  He said that OLED is only generally available in 55 and 65 inch right now (ok, you can find >65, but it is crazy expensive - like B&O prices without the B&O), and there's no hurry to make smaller OLED tvs.  Therefore, going forward, Horizon will be the smaller TV.  Avant will be the larger.  I didn't ask about the BV14 (and I don't recall seeing one on display so maybe this doesn't speak well of the BV14, at least in the US)...  Maybe in a few years this will change as technology advances, but this seems to support the idea that they are not going away soon - even less likely if they are now basically "fixed".
