The next generation 5 series to go on sale next February was announced today.  The specs show a change from the Bang & Olufsen sound system as the high end offering to a system From Bowers & Wilkens.

A surround sound system from Bowers & Wilkins with diamond tweeters is available for the first time in the new BMW 5 Series range.  This optional high-end audio system is renowned for delivering the ultimate in listening pleasure. The 10-channel amplifier feeds a total of 16 speakers with brushed stainless steel grilles sporting the exclusive Fibonacci-patterned holes, which illuminate when the system is switched on. Total output is an impressive 1,400 watts. A measuring microphone is built into the car to allow the acoustics to be precision tuned to the specific conditions for example, the number of occupants in order to create a flawless surround sound experience for everyone in the car. What’s more, the sound setting can be matched to the selected music genre.

Alternatively, there is the option of a nine-channel sound system with
16 speakers and a total output of 600 watts from Harman Kardon, as well as an eight-channel system with 12 speakers. The Professional radio with twin tuner fitted as standard comes with six speakers.

BMW today unveiled its 2017 BMW 5 Series Sedan, which will be one of the first cars to include wireless CarPlay support. According to press materials released today, iPhones will be able to wirelessly integrate with the BMW iDrive system, connecting to the car over Bluetooth instead of through a Lightning cable.

Yes the same system is available on the current 7-series. What's interesting is that the medium-end audio option is still harman/kardon (which owns the B&O car audio unit).

Whom do you think that own B&W in cars.

There is a reason B&O chose to sell, as Harmon sits on it all.

Jaguar changed from B&W to Meridian leaving the Bowers and Wilkins upgrade available to a higher volume application that at first sight seemed more appropriate. B&W labels in a Jaguar always seemed like a subliminal reminder of their German competitor.
