I was playing a CD tonight and noticed that there was no display at all. Everything else works perfectly, any ideas ?

Do you have clean supply at the frontpanel (1IC1 pin 20)?

Hi Martin, don't know I've been hoping someone would point me in some direction before I start taking it apart. Pin 20 on the main ribbon ? Any idea what voltage I should expect ?

I AM actually pointing you in the right direction - but as you may have recognized, you are the one sitting with the CD player (not I), so you
will have to do the measurements and report back to me to allow me to diagnose.
And you cannot do that without taking the player apart to some extent.

Main ribbon?  Eh - where did that come from?

Indeed I have a very good idea of the voltage to be expected but I would need to know how things are currently in your deck.

So - what voltage do you have on pin 20 of IC1 on the frontpanel PCB?
And the amount of ripple?

Put the scope in 1V or 2V/grid DC range for the voltage reading and perhaps 100mV/grid AC for the ripple check.

Martin
