Hello, I'm a huge vinylphile - but am a touch lacking on technical knowledge...

I've had my Beocentre 1800 for a quite a while (2002); when I first got it, it had a service, speakers got new cones... I love it.  I've had to replace the cartridges a few times, but the fact I could play my laptop through the tape input made it a perfect vinyl / digital system.

But now the motor has clogged with dust (leading to records constantly dropping then picking up... only to drop). A thorough service would be £200 (what that is in your currency will probably change by tomorrow!). I can't justify that when the needle could still go and I'd be left frantically hunting ebay for a replacement. But whilst the turntable is gone, the amp and speakers are still perfectly good.

So I'm looking for a future-proof system, but because I don't have a spare grand I need to get the turntable first; then the streamer and speakers.  My question is; if I get a new turntable, can I still use my Beocentre as an amp & speakers through the tape or AFC input?  Or is it a case that the phono stage only works on the phono setting and I would need a separate pre-amp?

Huge thanks for any help, it would make a massive difference if I could phase the replacement of my system.

Ben
