Does anyone have any experience using the Beovox 2 as rear speakers in a surround sound set-up?
Also came across the new Celestial in-ceiling speaker which seem to offer a good solution as rear speakers n a surround set-up. Any news about how much they cost?
I understand these are passive speakers, so can they be driven by BS3 or BS4? If not, does it become complicated to add on an amplifier just to use these as rear speakers and B&O active speakers for centre/front?
Passive speakers in a B&O setup will always need an amp.
You can use the good old MCL2P aka BeoLink Passive as amp for the speakers.
I recall that there should be a new 2 channel amp for the Celestials coming - but don't have any details.

So will it be easy to run a surround sound setup consisting of both active and passive speakers using either old beolink passive or beoamp 2? Not sure how the sound output will be handled in such a setup using beosystem 3/4.
And I am not sure, what you mean by 'how the sound output will be handled'?
In both systems you configure the output used according to the speakers connected
However, you have a lot more options in a BSys4 to tweak/optimize the sound of your entire setup.
What I meant was normally the Beolabs would get directly connected to the BS3/4 via PL cables but in a setup with a combination of active and passive speakers, how will the sound be handled e.g. does the amp connect to the BS4 if the in-ceiling speakers are used as rear speakers in a surround setup? and will that result in sound delay?
You should not expect a delay - even if you would, that could be looked after in the setup of the speaker system (on the BSys).
The only thing, that you should know - if you use a MCL2P/Passive Link as the amp - is, that you will need the fully wired PL cables. Otherweise the amp won't turn on/off.
Ask your dealer (or Steve at Sounds Heavenly) for advice.
Depending on the lenght, don't use the thinnest cables from the amp to the speakers - a good medium qualty will do the job.
Basically this speakers combination is handled like any other (active) speaker from B&O.
