AIFF, apple lossless, aac, wav

Open iTunes > Preferences > General. Near the bottom right there is "Import Settings". Click "Import Using…". The expansion triangle will offer you options for import coding; choose MP3 Encoder.

iTunes for Windows will import and automatically convert unprotected WMA files, however this function isn't available with iTunes for Mac. To import WMA files for the Mac, you could have a look at something like EasyWMA audio converter. This will let you convert the files to an iTunes compatible format prior to importing: EasyWMA (not free).

Or import your WMA files into iTunes for Windows on a Windows based pc or use/play music from iCloud.

All your tracks/files have to be imported and converted in ITunes manually.
