Beovision 9 Screen Removal How to- but problem not gone away

This is the problem (black strip on the left image) but if I apply pressure to the area I can make the strip temporarily disappearSo I decided I would remove the screen and reseat the ribbon cable- it hasn't worked so any advice welcome.  In the meantime if anyone else wants to remove their Beovision 9 screen here's how to do it.

Removing the plasmas screen from the Beovision 9 is relatively straightforward – but you need two people to do it due to the weight.

 

1 Remove front frame- it comes off with a good pull (start at the corner)

2 Remove the torx screws holding speaker panel – pull panel off carefully and disconnect the center speaker (2 wires)

3 With one person holding screen from the front go to back of the TV and remove the 4 black plastic caps to reveal the 4 bolts that attach TV screen frame to TV cabinet then remove the bolts (once undone the TV is then only held on by the three adjusting bolts – see red circles)

4 Screw the three adjusting bolts (red circles) clockwise to release screen from TV cabinet

5 Leaver screen forward carefully and disconnect the 3 leads (yellow circles)

6 Remove screen from the cabinet

 

Once removed, taking the screen frame off is pretty easy and it’s clear which bolts to remove.

To remove the rear case remove all screws around the edge- I think there are about 28.

 

Reinstallation

The tricky part is getting the three frame bolts (red circles) to line up with the holes on the cabinet. I looked through the holes at the back with a torch to see when they were lined up.

There are two adjuster bolts (green circle) that the Screen frame rests on, these can be adjusted down to give a little more clearance when reinstalling if necessary- just remember to screw them back up again

The end point.  Orange ellipse is the Problem connection point but reseating didn't help.

 

My question is using a Panasonic screen as a replacement which I can get hold of.  I know the model number TH-50PF9, but will there be any set up issues as I've read others have had problems connecting it up to beosystem 3 and it not being recognised?

You could replace the entire panel and maintain the D-board and boards around the input (DVI etc). Then the panel will certainly be recognized.

But the main problem will be the colourmanagement. The BV9 has a calibrated panel which is adjusted with the help of the froant camera (mk3 or highr). I don;t know if the camera if fully capable of adjusting the colours (greyscale, white point etc).

Maybe only changing the DVI module could be enough the let the panel be recognized by the BS3. Your computer will recognize the B&O panel as a B&O Dx version.

Thanks I was hoping I could repair it by selecting the appropriate boards.  For replacement purposes I'm looking at a TH-50pf10, my screen is a TH-50pf9. Will the display from the pf10 work OK with the relevant boards from the pf10? My BV 9 is a mark2 so doesn't have the camera so avoids the extra complications (?)

Screen fixed.  I bought a standard Panasonic replacement panel from eBay after having checked the model code against the one in the BV9, and it was just a straight swap- very easy.  No need to swap out any boards inside- just a complete unit change. How happy was I after initially thinking I was going to have to strip the whole thing down.

Hope this is useful to others who may encounter a similar problem.

Really keen to know if you can replace the screen with a Samsung,Sony,lg ...etc

1. What functions would I loose.? Turn, stand function

2. And do you just need a dvi to hdmi lead to go to new screen & power?

3. Will the menu still show as it does now, or will that be from the new screen?

As you can see from picture my screen has lines on it at bottom but if I pull white plug from bs3 it disappears .....could this been cable plug needing re seated in monitor?

Only appear on initial turn on.

Unplug white plug and re plug they disappear , there s not any other issues with screen....been advised to scrap...seems a waste...when if possible I could upgrade screen with 4K/uhd.

After a day of cleaning the carcass I managed to set up beosystem 3 and carried out a test regarding ir on bv9,

Used a 32 " Samsung and it worked perfect nice crisp image

Think this is going to look brilliant when complete.

Will need some frame work inside cabinet for new screen.

Wonderful project! I'm curious about the final result. Please keep on posting your construction steps and photos. :)

Small update:

1st fix off hdmi lead into cabinet.

Foam inserts for new panel to rest on, trial and error may need to add or remove depending on panel

All glued in place

To raise base inline with fret cloth

4mm height difference on new base to speaker fret for flush fit of new screen

Ok.... frame work complete and painted....Matt black:

Dressed timber up the sides to take up the tolerance 1-2mm

Amp to be fitted

Ready for new 4K HDR+.....blah blah blah....tech speak
