Hi,

is is there a way I can reset a BM1 to factory settings without using the keyboard or remote? What's happened is that the unit boots up to a gray screen although it is accessible from the network. There is a ghostly greyed out dialog box that I can hardly see which says it couldn't find a module to load.

Hi,

I'm sorry but there's no way to restore the BeoMedia 1 without a keyboard. connecting a PS/2 keyboard (or _maybe_ an USB Keyboard). While starting the BeoMedia you have to press the keys <Ctrl> and <8> to get the Windows XP Bootscreen where you can select the Restore. No media data will be lost Smile

Hi,

thanks,  I tried that with a USB keyboard, but nothing happens - still gray screen. Maybe I need a PS2 keyboard as the USB drivers may not be loaded in time?

For me, windows can't load a module, sounds more like a defective hard disc drive. I had many PCs in the past with these messages and more than 90% had a defective hard disc drive. First, windows can't find files, later the drive becomes inaccessible.

You said, that you can access it via network. Before making any experiments, I would try to save any media from the Beomedia 1 to an external disc drive connected to your client computer.

Then I would try a recover.

Do you still have the original 250Gb drive in your Beomedia 1 ? This one is now really old and seems to have reached end-of-life.

Hi,

How can you do a recover?

I've now tried a PS2 keyboard and tried Ctrl-8 and F8 but still no access to the recovery screen. I thought it was in BIOS!

Ahah!,

the problem was was down to my monitor via the beosystem 3- switching to a direct VGA input allowed me to get to the recovery screen. It's worrying though that the disk is likely on its way out. How easy is it to replace? Windows XPE is normally a bugger to do.

Normally you can reach the recovery option by pressing F8 multiple times after you start your Beomedia 1 until you reach the Windows boot menu.

The original hard disc is an ATA interface one. You wouldn't get these new today, so the only option is to use an ATA to Serial ATA interface adapter, clone the old disc to the new one and after that extend the data partition.

Have done this myself some years ago and am now using a 1TB drive.

The next problem that will arise is that today you only get 1TB hard disc using 4k cluster size which XPE does not support natively, so you have to allign all partitions/files before starting Beomedia 1 for the first time after disc cloning.

Not easy, but it's possible.

Thanks - working again. I'll have a look at replacing the drive with a SATA one.
