Hi all,
I moved to a new place and looking to switch things up a bit. My current set up is a Beogram 4000/Macintosh MA 230 amp/Dynaco A25 speakers. it sounds great.
however I'm looking to go all B&O.
should I go with a Beomaster 3000-2 or 4400? I love the look of the 3000 and it matches the Beogram really well. But probably not enough power for most speakers.
the option on speakers I have is Beovox 1200 (not the book shelf) or 5700. I just need enough sound to fill a small living room, I live in a 800 sq ft 1 bedroom apt. I do like my bass though, the A25's have been fantastic.
let me know what you guys think. I want to go minimalist but not compromise on sound too much.
thanks!!!!
Have you considered the B&O Beolab 5000 amplifier (produced from 1967 to 1972). It matches well with the Beogram 4000. Between the Beomaster 3000 and 4400 I think the 4400 is better but if you like the look of the BM3000 better then it should be fine.-sonavor
Thanks for responding. The Beolab 5000 with the tuner looks amazing but I have no idea where I'd be able to track one down. Let me l ow if you hear of anything.
Would the Beomaster 3000-2 be able to power the 5700 speakers? Seems like the Beolab 5000 would have no problem. Correct?
Thanks in advance :)
Beolab 5000 for me as well.
The best, period.

If you are located in Europe I don't think they are too difficult to find. There is a Beolab 5000 on Ebay right now that is located in Sweden but requires a repair. To get a fully restored and working Beolab/Beomaster system you should check with Beoworld member Martin (Dillen) and Frede (Classic) on the forum. They are both in Denmark and are true B&O professionals. The Beomaster 3000-2 should be able to power the Beovox 5700 speakers. Of course it depends how loud you are wanting to play your music. The Beolab 5000 and Beomaster 4400 can output more power and, yes, would have no problem. I don't have a pair of Beovox 5700 speakers but I have found the other, vintage Beovox speakers (MS150 and M100) to be pretty sensitive. If you are not looking for a B&O restoration project I would recommend finding an already restored receiver/amplifier (BL5000, BM3000-2 or BM4400) that fits your budget. Often times there are "working" units for sale but if they haven't been professionally refurbished you will eventually be looking at a repair. That is just the way it is when collecting 20 to 40+ year old audio components. Once they have been restored though, they should last another thirty or more years.-sonavor
The Beolab 5000 is a superb piece of equipment and built to the highest standard. The 4400 sounds better as it is 10 years younger just at a time when transistor amplifiers were improving. Having said that, I use my 5000 more than anything else! I you want the very best 5000, see Frede. He built mine and can supply a perfect tested 5000 system which will last years. because these are devices made at a component level, they can be restored and in fact made better than new. Frede can also do a 4400 for you if that is more your thing. If you have the opportunity, pick it up in person - you can visit Struer at the same time which is well worth a visit. The highlight is definitely Veno though!

The 5000 seems to be sold by a forum member Tamtapir, so he might have the details on the kind of defect it has.
thanks
