I have a problem with my Beosound 5 / Beomaster 5 and a CD Ripping Device:
I have connected a normal CD USB Drive (not the original B&O drive) to my Beomaster 5 via USB. Everything works fine, i can rip a CD, can play the CD if i press CD on my Beo4.
But I can't see the CD entry in the Mode Menu, where i can see all the sources (N.MUSIC, N.RADIO, Spotify and A.AUX). So i can only start playing the CD inside the drive by pressing CD on Beo4. I have tested three different non B&O drives but nothing changed.
It can be possible that B&O make this restriction for all non B&O CD ripping drives?
I have the latest Firmware (7.04.01.1945) and to test every possibility i made a recovery. Nothing worked.
Is there anybody who has the same problem and can help me or has a solution?
I have never used a ripping device with my Beosounf 5 si I am sorry I do not have any suggestions.

A third party USB CD drive will work for ripping, but not, as you have discovered, for CD playback.
I actually wasn't aware that you could trigger it to play using the remote - my BS5 is actually in audiomaster=no as I have a BS9000 as audiomaster in the same setup, so this wouldn't work for me anyway but is useful to know.
I suspect the software looks for the specific USB ID / string of the official CD ripper but I don't know for certain.
Martin.
Is there anybody who knows the manufacturer of the original B&O drive? Maybe an Teac?
