Hi all

Just bought a "free" BC9500 that shows the infamous 'code' in the display.

Figured that I would just change the battery, and enter the 1721 combo on the BL1000, but nothing happens. Tried with different timings regarding plugging in/out from power, and tried with or without PLAY at the end.

The remote is working, and is in audio mode.

I then took the PCB4 processor board including IR receiver from a defective 8500(that is working regarding radio, but not much else.

With this board the 9500 lights up and works 100% (except timer and 2 way IR off course).

Then I took the SW chip from the 9500 and swapped into the 8500 PCB, the display again shows 'code', but now when I enter 1271, the volume indicator and vol+/vol- buttons light up, and if I press RADIO on the remote, all different LED's light up and shuts off after 2-5 seconds.

Nothing seems to do the trick getting the SW to re-learn the settings.

Putting the 8500 SW back, everything is just fine, and without any 'code' in the display.

I have done the 1721 on numerous BM35/4500's and it has always worked fine, but I suspect that either the sequence is different on the 9500, to the SW chip is dead ?

Any ideas, other than just use it as a 8500 :) ?

Hmm, I tried to put back the original PCB4 from the 9500, and put the 8500 SW in the 9500 PCB, the unit still works fine.

So there must be a problem with the SW chip, or just me not knowing how to do the 1721 combo on the 9500 ?

What are the correct and tested way of doing this on the 9500 ?

Have you made sure it isn't in option 0? Seem to remember that it doesn't accept the 1721 combo in option 0. The eprom shouldn't be the one holding the option setting though, or...? But worth a shot I guess.

That was also my first thought, but it does not seem that the option can be changed when 'code' is present. That is why I tried it with the 8500PCB I knew was working. And in that configuration, the unit responds to IR as I can see that it turns on when pressing 1 on the remote, however, 'code' remains in the display.

But still no luck in getting the 'code' fixed.

...but now when I enter 1271,

You're sure you did the 1271 as you mention 1721 as well...?

Info should be in IC6  PCF8583 so check this one (there's also the time info in this one). Also the I2C-communication on pins 5&6.

On its pin 8 it should show the battery voltage. If not check e.g. TR3.

I had a BC9500 with "code" some years ago and did reset on the 1271; can't remember if with or without PLAY.

Good luck; a BC9500 is always worth saving...

Yes sorry, 1271 off course :) Spelling mistake..

Since the unit works 100% with the SW from a 8500, I would think that all on PCB4, including battery, should be fine ?

I will try some combos with or without PLAY tonight.

First problem is actually that the IR receiver in the 9500 is not working !!!! Found out with the 8500SW that I could not control it via BL1000.

So switched back to the BC8500 board including the IR receiver. Put in the 9500SW and 'code' came on.

Right after code comes on, press 1-2-7-1 rather quick after each other. No need for pressing RADIO first, just make sure the the remote is set to control radio, so make sure that you have pressed RADIO or another audio source before turning the BC9500 on.

Just after pressing 1, the volume indicator lights up half way, and the VOL+/- also lights up.

after the last 1 in the sequence, wait until the volume indicators and buttons shut off(approx 3 seconds), then unplug the unit, wait a few seconds, and then plug it back in..

Voila !!

Now just have to figure out what is wrong with the IR receiver :)
