hi all
i am sure this has been answered somewhere but i have yet been unable to find the answer, i have purchased the Beosound Moment as my first bang and olufsen device, i am after some guidance on the NAS device, i am aware this has to have something called tonkys, i would like to know what device would be best for using as a media server? and how to set it up any help is appreciated many thanks
The DLNA server that B&O recommend is called Twonky Server. You can find it online. I believe there are only certain specific builds of TwonkyServer that can be installed on certain QNAP, IOMEGA and Synology NAS devices to be run on the NAS.
The more conventional approach is to have TwonkyServer running on a PC or a MAC and use the NAS as the storage medium for the media itself. But yes, I totally understand the more convenient approach to only have one device -- the NAS storing the media and running the software. Hope this helps you.
Thanks it sort of helps...at there any media servers that are available with twonky pre loaded on that I can basically plug and play ???
im rubbish with this I was going to get a dedicated mini mac for my moment but I would prefer something to plug directly into my router via USB,,, would twonky work on a USB stick ??
I've had good results using the QNAP TS-251 for customer installs. It seems to work well with the Moment and also has an HDMI output should you wish to use it for serving video files directly to a television too.

As I have posted in other threads, QNAP is really an easy integration with BS Moment thanks to Twonky app availability. The QNAP TS-251 replaced my Synology as Media server, the HDMI output on this model coupled with the Kodi app running on the NAS brings interesting options.

It was during the early days of the Moment, not the best period to be honest, and I don't have all the details in mind, but I remember that when I switched to the QNAP/Twonky while using the same Moment software version, I found the NAS integration painless compared to the Synology/Native DLNA server, including speed to digest tracks, playlists, album covers and a better rendering (some said it was psychological, but trust me I have a good ear!)
I have a very large library (34k tracks), maybe the Synology DS212j DLNA was not sized to service it very well at that time. More recent Synology hardware/software may do the job, but I'm still convinced that B&O developed their product around Twonky.

Thanks for your thoughts. I'm about to receive a Synology DS916+ to be used for a lot of things, among them, I'm hoping as cherry on top would be not requiring an always on Mac running twonky as the music brains to serve up music to my Essence MkII. Perhaps Plex would be another option.
Only for sharing to all ofo you...I'm running on my Synology the DLNA software called Minim Server (available on Synology software) and it Works fine with my momnet...no other DLNA NAS App works with the moment...excep Minim!
