Hi guys,
Newbie here at turbtables. My dad bought a set of Beolab 18s as a present to himself on a recent big birthday. At the moment, they are just running off an iMac via the Beolab Transmitter, but the plan longer term is to add the beolab 19 subwoofer.
I want to buy a reasonably priced turntable for him as an xmas gift but I'm unsure what to look out for. Will the Transmitter 1 be suitable to get us up and running?
Anyone have any recommendations?
Hi JohnIRL,
Welcome to Beoworld! Adding a turntable means that you normally need a phono pre-amplifier and a volume control between the turntable and the speakers to boost the signal and to control the volume. If the iMac is staying in place, that makes things MUCH easier, as you only need this all-in-one pre-amp and volume control that links the turntable to the iMac and speakers via USB:-

This has the added advantage of having two separate outputs (3.5mm and twin RCA), so you can connect the Beolab 18s to it via the existing iMac cable and then add the Beolab 19 sub via an RCA cable when you are ready.
Kind regards, Steve.

The Rega turntables are very good - i've got an RP6, which wasnt cheap, but i got a bit carried away - the RP3 is also pretty good and more reasonable.
As an aside, i've ended up turning off my BL19 when listening to music - using it in combination with my BL18s was just too much bass.......i'd be in no hurry to add the BL19, great though it is in isolation...
Thanks! Yes the BL19 is not on a list of priorities. Not particularly into bass myself, so I think it will be a while (if ever!) before it appears.
Do you have a receiver between your turntable and the BL18s? Would the turntable work on it's own, just straight into the transmitter/directly into the BL18s?
my turntable is connected to a Beosystem 4 box, as are all my sources (TV plus others).......not sure about connections for your set up....sure its possible.....i think the advantage of the BS4 is the audio signal processing it does before distributing to the speakers.......but likely overkill for your needs......any B&O dealer will have an easy answer for you......
