I've just bought a Beoplay S8 and although the overall sound is lovely it is just not that loud or basey. The system is supposed to have 560w max output (even though the power consumption of the unit is rated at 125W ???) but it is nowhere near as loud as my old 135w EMT speakers with a 250w Yamaha amp. It obviously looks and sounds better but I can't help feeling it won't be loud enough when we have a party. Also, why is the manual so incredibly basic? It doesn't even tell you what all the ports do. Any help greatly received.

I think Leo was asking what is feeding your S8 - as in what device is it connected to?
Sorry. I've tried it with my iPhone iPad and my windows laptop plugged into the 3.5 mm jack on the connection hub. I've varied all the settings on the subwoofer but nothing seems to increase the max volume. I'm guessing 560w should be pretty loud?
The system starts quite loud but then seems to dip. I'm not sure if the S8 is changing the volume or if the connection hub is doing it. Our living room is fairly large I guess, it is around 85 m² and we have ceilings between three and 5 m high. At low volumes the base seems quite pronounced but as you turn it up the base seems to get lost. Why are my two 135 W speakers louder than this supposed 560 W system?
From both. I've set up an IR remote and you can hear the hub changing volume. How is the system rated at 560W when the sub woofer is rated at 125W?
Ha ha, yes, that's a good description of the room. The S8 is in one corner of the room. Maybe I need to spread the satellites further apart?

Thanks Peter. I can't help feeling a bit duped by the output figures displayed by B&O. How can you get 560W output from a device that consumes only 125W of power. Also, why is this not as loud as my 250W amp and speakers.

Chris, your living room is way too large for this small speaker system. Volume is not a matter of pure wattage ratings, it is influenced by many other things as e.g. membrane size of the speaker.
About power consumption and power output: On modern speakers B&O uses icepower amplifiers which consume very little power but have a high power output, which means they are more effecient than classic Class-B amplifiers.

It depends on how much money you want to spend.
For a room like yours I would choose a pair of beolab 5, but they are pricey.

It's because when you are using the iphone or laptop, the output level is so much lower. When you use a toslink output from a tv, the sound will be tremendes lowder. It will probaly be 200% lowder or something.
