Hi All

I have had an aging Beosystem 2500 with a Beo4 remote that has worked perfectly for many years.  A few days ago we had a power cut and once power was restored the Remote no longer works with the 2500.  Tried replacing batteries to no avail.  The 2500 works manually and the display on the remote changes when buttons are pressed - but the signals from the remote do not effect the 2500 unit.  Have no other audio or TV systems that are controlled by the remote.

Would be grateful for any advice members may have on solving this.

Many thanks in anticipation.

Regards to all

Gareth

Gareth,

The first thing to check is the OPTION settings. Whilst the factory default is "option 1" then power cut could have caused it to come up in another state which would certainly stop the remote from working.

I am assuming that you have already powered down at the mains switch, waited a little time and powered up again? if not do that first and if it still does not work, then set the OPTION setting to 1

Option programming

The actual option programming is executed by pressing a certain sequence of keys on the terminal.

For the Beo4 terminal the key sequence is the following:

Press and hold

LIST

Press to access the setup functions.  The Beo4 display reads [OPTION?] - let go of both buttons

GO

Press to access Option-programming

LIST

Press to display: V.OPT (BeoVision) or A.OPT (BeoMaster/BeoSound) or L.OPT (link room products)
then

1

Key in the number of the appropriate Option (e.g. 1)

Hi Keith

First of all thank you so much for your replies.  Unfortunately, instructions didn't work.  I am assuming the first button in your list (the one you hold while pressing LIST), is the red power button.  Certainly, all the other steps come up after that initial hold and press.

When I press 1 in the last step, the display returns to whatever was being displayed before the sequence was entered (RADIO, V.MEM, etc.).  No indication of whether or not the option was saved or stored which I was expecting.   Any other ideas?

Is there a way to ensure that the Beosystem 2500 is set for Option 1?  Maybe the problem is with the 2500 unit itself rather than the remote - since power cut shouldn't effect the remote?

Once again, thank you for your help/advice.

Kind regards

Gareth

PS:  Tried powering off and waiting several times twice for over an hour wait.

The red std.by LED on the 2500 will blink once when it receives an Option value. Make sure the 2500 is in stand by, when you enter the Option 1 command on the remote.

It is normal for the remote to exist the Option menu after a number is pressed.

You cannot check the 2500 it self for the option setting. Maybe via the service mode, but then you need to open up the unit to access service mode.

Thank you Weebyx and Keith - progress is being made but still not quite there!  After see the light blink as in Weebyx message - the Radio and CD player now work from the remote and volume controls work.

The only function I use that does not work is the connection to the (non-B&O) television.  The audio from the TV is connected to the AUX input of the 2500.  I used to be able to switch to the AUX (TV) channel by pressing V-MEM on the remote.  This still does not work anymore but the tv sound does work when I press AUX on the Beosystem 2500 manually.  Once selected - I can control the volume using the remote.

The option setting instructions I carried out only cause a blink (received signal?) when I set Option 1 for the A-OPT option.  V-OPT and L-OPT are unresponsive when I carry out the same sequence for them?

So, almost there - progress is good!

Thanks for all your help.

Regards

Gareth

Still cannot get 2500 unit to switch to the AUX input to allow control of the TV sound.

Interesting that I can turn on radio from the remote - then go to the unit and change to AUX then the remote will control volume.  But, if AUX is selected from the unit BEFORE turning the radio on with the remote - cannot control sound level?

Anyone any ideas on how to get the V-MEM button on the remote to activate the AUX input channel?

Thanks

Set your 2500 to A.OPT 2 as advised by Weebyx and it will respond to videocommands like TV, V.MEM.

video commands will open the AUX port.

All systems are now working

Thanks to all :)

Had another power cut today and system settings lost again - reset as per instructions in this thread and all worked fine.

As a supplementary question to this problem - Does the 2500 have a battery backup inside to maintain settings during power outages which might need replacing?  If so, does anyone know how to do this replacement?

Thanks for everyone's help in advance.

Gareth
