Started the process of looking at the boards in my Beocenter 5000 - intending to replace the capacitors on the Computer board #4.
when I opened the shielded section of the board, a coupled of things caught my eye.
1 - Large IC's in sockets - was this a factory install?
2 - Some caps replaced
3 - An extra little board replacing the D6 diode
4 - A "coin-type" 3 volt battery
Haven't read, seen, or noticed on any schematic this extra board. From what I can tell it is a transistor voltage reference replacing the diode.
Any ideas about these changes - the board and coin battery look like factory installs.
Looks nice and original if you ask me.Where do you see replaced capacitors?
There were many minor changes in production, not all got to the printed servicemanuals.
And just a reminder, - never work without ESD-protection inside those CPU boxes (prereably everywhere, really). It's CMOS!
