Finally have ferries booked and off to Denmark in September. I have two major objectives, Ferde to collect a new toy and then search out the elusive Elephant beer.

So any recommended to do's while there ?

Skagen, was a fishing harbour, now arts, tourist and good restaurants, a little north of there Denmarks most northern point, Grenen, go for sun up or down.

Aalborg, night on the town in Jomfru Anne gade (Street), Friday or Saturday are the best.

Aarhus, Den Gamle By (the old city), museum with very old city and farm houses, in the season working like they did some hundred years ago. Aarhus has more interesting things to do, depending on interest, check the internet sites.

Collecting Vintage B&O is not a hobby, its a lifestyle.

Are you getting off the ferry in Esbjerg?

If so, I know where you can buy both bottles and cans of Elephant beer Laughing

You're welcome to visit me (living 8 km from the habour) for a cup of coffee and a good B&O talk.

Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.

Absolutely, two Beoworlders on the Struer trip recommended we go there ... and so we did !

Skagen is a delightful town - apartently a bit of a royal sailing playground, and certainly we saw lots of yatching types there.

I did not find Elephant beer there (see the Beer thread in lifestyle for discussions on elephant and other beers Beer), but we did discover this interesting ritual in Skagen Big Smile shown below.

The best part of Skagen was visiting the various homes of famous Danish artists, the northern most tip where the two seas meet (at 4:30am brrrrrrrrr !!), Drachmann's Grav near by, and the remnants of Hitler's Atlantic wall.

We also visited an authentic Viking village south of where Soren lives Smile, the Legoland at Billund which is north of him Big Smile and well worth it for satisfying the inner child.

Aarhus with is large multi-story public art gallery where we were lucky enough to encounter a street fair (where I got my only cup of real coffee in Denmark Coffee) and an associated open air conference.

To be honest we found Copenhagen a disappointment compared to the rest of Denmark -- to be fair, this may have been because it was a long weekend religious holiday when we were there and the town felt deserted on the Sunday and Monday Sad but the Saturday in the sunshine with all the boats in the canals celebrating the start of summer was great.  The Thorvaldsens museum celebrating his life and amazing collection of statues and his personnel collection of Italian art was amazing.  Christiania was interesting but a little sad - exposing as it did human frailties.

And of course you simply must go to Struer to visit the B&O Museum.

Bon Voyage !!

Oh I agree about avoid planes, I was just saying Keith's icons lack trains, boats, buses, trams and cars :-)

I much prefer train travel these days ... but I still aim to keep my case down to ~10kg not a tonne Surprise
