Hi there,

Since I'm looking to buy a Beosound 9000 system I have been researching internet as much as I could and always referred to this great site. I've searched here threads on this particular system as well.

Perhaps my question is: Anything specific I should ask or look for when contacting buyers or checking their Beosound 9000 systems for sale?

Much appreciated any advice or tips you could give me!

Cheers,

Martin

Martin,

A Warm Welcome to Beoworld..

There are three versions of the Beosound 9000 Mark 1, Mark 2 and Mark 3

Each Beosound 9000 also has a 4 digit "Type" number which defines which country is made to work in, this is important.

So, if you are in the UK and you buy from a UK seller, then normally no problem, but if you were to buy from another country, then you may have problems. So the first question to ask a seller is "What is the 4 digit Type Number

You can look HERE for the full details of the product.

Regards Keith....

Try to get a mk3 if you can. The later the better.

Some spare parts are difficult to get a hold of.

And as the gentleman before me stated: MK3

as explained in an old beoworld thread the mk2 laser has been used on many other players and brands

it is far less expensive and complicated than finding one for a mk3.

the laser is not the only part that can be defektiv but that's the most important part in a player.

the later the better was true in old times. later doesn't absolutely means better quality or easier to service.

4 beolab 5,  beolab 9, beolab 10, beolab 5000, beolab 8000 mk2, beolab 6002, beolab 3500, beovision 7 55 mk2,  2 beovision 11 46 mk4, beotime, beosound ouverture, beosound essence, beoplay A8, beomaster 900 RG de luxe and the collection continues...

Where are you located? If you're near MInnesota you can borrow my MK2. I'm not using it.

Hi Keith,

Thank you for the warm welcome and initial advice!

One more question that I have is this: Where is the sticker with the Type Number and year of mnufacture located?

A lady is selling her daughter´s equipment but she doesn't have any information in that regard. I was thinking in asking her to check the sticker, but not sure where it is...

Cheers,

Martin

Thank you Peter, much appreciated!

I'm afraid I'm too far... Ottawa, Ontario.

I read it... I'll keep that in mind! After all, seems that the only difference would be the chip for N-radio/N-music, correct?

Thank you!

Martin

It should be behind the keypad on the front. When you open the cover to access they keys. You can flip the whole thing out.

I'd go for the BS9000 Mk3 if you can find one. I bought mine from a dealer going out of business. I had to have the laser replaced and at the same time had the latest (or last?) software chip installed. This allowed me to use the 9000 with my NL/ML converter to play and control it from my Avant TV and share the audio throughout my house via my BS35 & A9. I don't believe any of the earlier 9000's have the ability to do this. Just a thought if you're thinking about expanding your B&O system in the future.

The main user changes for the Mark 3 Type 257X are:-

  • N.MUSIC is added for use with BeoLink PC 2 and Beoport
  • You can now name CDs via Beo4
  • You can now do Timer programming via Beo4
  • Improved Random function (does not start with CD1 track 1)
  • CD and CD track selection via the six buttons placed next to the CD compartment
  • PIN CODE protection
  • Mains switch has been removed from serial number 15397011

The main Technical changes were:-

  • New design of the electronics and sledge to optimize the production process
  • New microcomputer (μPH8)
  • Changed sledge and CD single chip concept for VAM1250
  • New DAC type on the Input/output select PCB
  • New tuner module
  • Improved optical positioning system for sledge (dust resistant)
  • Plasma safe IR receiver

Interesting about the plasma safe IR receiver on the MkIII. I know my Mk I will not respond to the remote control if my plasma is on unless the image on the TV is very, very dark. Was the same with my AV7000 when I had it, when I went to a plasma from a tube set it had to go.

Jeff

I'm afraid I'm recovering from the BeoVirus. Sad

Where is the sticker with the Type Number and year of manufacture located?

The sticker is underneath the control panel as shown below
