Hey Beovox141 , thanks for the shout out. Its taken some time to assemble, if you notice on the bottom I'm 1 piece short of a matching 6000 quad setup too.

The Beocord 5000 is alive now, Its taken some time, but Its a ~weekly listener at this point (I've put a lot of love into it).

Honestly Ive gotten the pieces from all over However, the Beomaster 8000 system I got all at once, Im the 2nd owner, It was non-functional. It took about 6 months to get it to this state.

Cheers!

Fresh off the back of a Skoda - my latest addition! Checking the local classifieds twice a day is starting to pay off Cool Wasn't something I was looking for but I couldn't pass them up. If I'm honest, I only really wanted the BeoLab anyway.

Now to decide on a set of speakers. Any recommendations on a nice two-way 'bookshelf' speaker? I am thinking about using this purchase as an excuse to finally go after some nice Dynaudio units.

I am officially VERY JEALOUS ... what a wonderful buy.

This was the first B&O setup I met in the wild.

Together with the @diamond” tweeters.

Next time I travel to Europe I should shop ahead for something like these.

Now I am officially kicking myself for leaving my BV2500 clones in the US. Would be the ultimate result for that old project - to connect them to an original BeoLab 5000 system.

The funny part is that I haven't really spent much time listening to it other than a short FM demo that lasted only a few minutes! I am super anxious to hear this thing. Waiting on the mail to bring me an aux cord from Steve so I can connect at least an iPod or computer. The seller also made me a deal on an original (read: very very very worn) pair of white(!) BV RL60.2. I have to say that was a very pleasant surprise - years ago I discovered how incredible this speaker is and always considered getting another set. Perhaps I will keep them around for summer time balcony duty Cool

If you need a scout for something in particular - let me know and I'll keep my eyes peeled for you Smile

I’m picking up at set of S8 tommorow.

Is the hub connected wireless to the sub, or do you actually have to run a cable from the Eclipse all the way to the sub?

Deal! That’s also probably a nicer neighbourhood than Luton, although it’s full of good people Big Smile

The Luton thing is actually not as funny a story as one could think. My brother and i played with Luton in carreer mode in FIFA, mostly because they were ***, back when we started at least. And then we thought it would be fun to get over there and watch some proper english football. It’s something else, than the tourist filled PL stadiums, that’s for sure Big Smile

Brian:

I am - everyone from Aarhus are nice guys.. :p

How on earth did you get to support Luton Town?? Nothing wrong with that - just surprised!

Yesterday I found some speaker companions to pair with the new BeoLab 5000 system. By chance I stumbled upon a decent pair of Canton LE350 speakers at a local market a few steps away from my apartment. They are exactly the size I was looking for and seemed to have the right ingredients (I have never heard a Canton product ever before) and for 60 euro, I figured why not!

The speakers turned out to be incredible - they lean toward the bright side of the spectrum but that is usually my preference. Only downside is that they are very directional. At any rate - now residing in their home above the kitchen area Smile

Only downside is that they are very directional.

In fact an ideal use for Canton's was in the days before in-wall speakers started being sold with back-boxes (so they had controlled characteristics and sounded decent).  One could install the Canton's -- and they made even smaller models -- mounted on the wall, on swivels like OmniMount ball brackets, pointed at the sweet spot from on high (or wherever).  My house came with them (1980's) installed "invisibly" behind a false-front ceiling soffit (which hung from the ceiling to hide a roll-down projector screen and the speakers).

The Canton's allowed it not to sound echoey despite being inside a 5-sided rectangular volume, aimed down very steeply from either side of the screen.  (I switched to some 3D Acoustics 3D6's for a more even frequency response, but they were just too large and not directional.  Ultimately I had to swap in Cambridge Soundworks original Ensemble's, and had to install Sonex inside the ceiling box, invisible unless you got close enough to look up!  Sorry, if I had a photo I would post it...

P.S.  @elephant is excused for not having heard of them, but @Evan your location is listed as DE!  Canton is supposedly the largest manufacturer and best-selling brand of loudspeakers in Germany.  (www.canton.de)  They used to manufacture all their own drivers & parts in-house; not 100% German anymore.  But if yours break, you can still get repairs done by the factory!

OK, I found it: Everybody has been uploading beautiful pictures of clean, well-designed setups.  Here's my $#!+-show of an equipment closet.  (It too, is supposed to be hidden, like the speakers and the screen mentioned above.)  System as it was in 2004-2011: notice the hush-PC, the closest thing I could find to a B&O-sleek, fanless computer.

The controller was about 7 years before an iPad existed to run iTunes remote!  But I wanted a large screen so I could see the album contents and browser columns.  It was cool,... well, if you were the sort of person who thought digital watches were pretty neat... and willing to reboot every few days...

Notice the little B&O CMI-5 in the stack above (tilted on its side so the CPU doesn't overheat)?  Its IR & audio cables lead down to a Sony CDP-CX100 CD Carousel in the crawlspace -- had to do *something* before iTunes existed -- and... it still works!  (Shown next to another ancient iTunes server.)

Someday I'll upload a photo of the system in action, which will show... exactly nothing!  The equipment is 100% hidden, except for the 6500 remote and the iTunes controller.

They are not high end but have good price/performance I would say.

Interesting to hear about your application! Some pictures of the speaker back box would be nice to see for understanding.

I had heard of Canton before but only really interacted with the Harman built car audio systems branded with "CANTON" on the speaker grilles of recent Škodas.

I knew that they were quality items and had some substance, I just had zero clue as to how much Big Smile. After buying them I started to do some research and, I'll admit, their domestic speaker operation is much bigger than I expected Surprise

For a new company's first series loudspeaker product they are really impressive.

Funny elephant!  That is as B&O as my living room will ever get...  No Essence nor Moment -- setup is now an iPad running iTunes Remote, plus a Dell Mini9 running iTunes 8.  Oh, plus a Logitech Hub app on the iPad to supplant the 6500 remote.  Yes, probably I should replace the equipment in the closet too, and give the 6500 to someone who will display it out elegantly on an Attyca II.Wink

It does look (and feel) like quality stuff. Maybe similar to companies/portfolios like Paradigm in Canada or Revel in the US.

Definitely taking a closer look at them in the future.

They are almost the exact height of the BL5k/BM5k stack. Worked out perfectly Cool

Yesterday I purchased a brand new Beo4 to go with my BV10. The only one my dealer said they could get me was the navigation version. After only one day of use I have to admit, I actually really miss the classic "GO" button. However, the differences to the LIST button, PLAY, and BACK make much more sense when using an ATV.

At any rate, its very interesting to see the subtle differences in the texture of the black case (the new one is quite rough), the ever so slightly blue-er silver top plate and the off-axis quality of the LCD.

This is probably old news to everybody here, but I haven't purchased a new Beo4 since 2007 Laughing

Hi Evan, been a while!

You know, modern speakers will always sound bright - well, say lively up there - on a Beolab 5000.

This was because the B&O speakers of yore often had cone tweeters with falling treble.

That is the case for the Beovox 5000 + 2500 Cubes... it was a whole.

Hi Jacques! Yes it has - life has been busy, but finally I have had some time to get back to the BeoHobby.

That is an excellent explanation - makes perfect sense! I also need to do some further investigation into the system, it seems that the right channel is slightly stronger in the high end. I believe it is the amplifier to blame because I noticed it on the RL60.2's as well as my new Cantons. I have am thinking of just sending it to Frede and doing it properly. This unit is in great shape and would be a fantastic restoration candidate.

I have to admit, owning a BL5000 has me thinking about building some new cube clones all the time! Cool
