Well, I connected my mbp to the tape 2 of my bc 9000 and then added a Xtra speaker kit (option 4) I switch on the speakers by link, tape2 on my beo 4 or just press the "mute" button on the ir receiver. works great! Another option is a B&O amp like the MCL2P. You will need a bombaster/system for the mcl option. The MCL2P option works stand-alone I think!

Good luck!

Starting on Aarhus School of Marine and Technical Engineering this month. The contract for my 27.5 sq. meter apartment has arrived and the key was collected today at 12... Moving the 8000 system and a pair of S75's to start with

Vinyl records, cassettes, open reel, valve amplifiers and film photography.

Tillykke - good luck with your new apartment, new school, new life...

And you`re also playing a `59 Gibson Les Paul ?...:))

Aarhus is a wonderful City - with three (3!) Beostores - if I remember correctly (and two 4sound stores..:))

When I moved out of the parent's house, I thought the same thing; "I only need one stereo." Now, a year later, almost all of my Beo has made the move and I have 3 BeoMasters running and a 4th under my bed awaiting its assignment. LOL

Engineering is, in my opinion, the single most awesome and best course of study available on the planet. Enjoy!

So that's how you look!

Congratz and enjoy the time. Gibson's are cool but I stick with Fender stratocasters and my Jackson US custom Randy Rhoads. Properly the only one in Denmark.

@ Søren Hammer

Congratulations with your new Apartment. A 8000 system and a pair of S75'ers is a good start. Yes - thumbs up

But I guess other B&O items will be moving in soon...Wink

The whole amp. Would love a pair of BL3000's or BL4500's as well but I just have nowhere to put them...

How did you solve the problem with the 'Bass Boost' of the BL 4500 amplifier..?

I once tried to swap the amplifiers of my BL 5000's and BL 4500's, because I think the green displays looks more 'cool' (and wanted it for the 5000's as they are in the livingroom)  - but I realized that the 5000's got too much bass with the BL4500 amplifier -and the 4500's suddently sounded too 'thin' (with too little bass...).
Then I looked in the service manual of the BL 4500 amplifier -and saw that there is a 'Bass Extension' Circuit (page 5 in the PDF manual), to compensate for the smaller cabinet of the 4500's. Huh?

My Electronic skills are not in a League, so I can make modifications on an amplifier like this - so I had to swap them back and leave it as it was before...Embarrassed

So - have you modified the amps - or have you just adjusted the sound controls on the BeoMaster..?

Hi, Evan.
As far as I rember you can not just swap the displays, as they have different plugs/connectors...Hmm

Andrew:

Beocentre 2600 came with a set of Beovox s45-2's I purchased, it had been used as a garage system and was quite rough. Initially I wasnt going to do any work on it, but a week with a bad cold and no projects soon had me repairing the deck, cleaning pots and a fair degree of work to clean up the metal trims and wooden trim. It looks quite smart now and has a nice sound.

I have always liked the design of the BC 2600 (and the BM1500 which it's based on) since the first time I saw it.

It's not as 'clean' and simple as later JJ designs - but it just looks so good...Cool

-and (as you say) - a very good amplifier too. Yes - thumbs up

The only difference between BL3000 and BL5000 amps is a single resistor that is installed in 5000 and omitted in 3000. It is obviously not mentioned in the BL4500 schematic as there never was a "big brother" for that speaker, but the circuitry around it seems the same or at least very similar.

Thanks for the info, Mika.

Yes -the manual is actually a 3000/5000 manual with the 4500 as an appendix.

But - are you saying, that it is possible to insert a resistor in the 4500 amplifier to 'dampen' the bass when used with the bigger Beovox 5000..? Maybe just take the resistors from the 5000's... Confused
(As you can see,  I'm not an Expert on this...but I know some who can possibly do the job...)

They cost pennies - no need to cannibalize speakers for them Wink

It's probably a surface mount component, and if the circuit board has been redesigned for 4500 (I don't know), there might not be a place for it any more. So adding it might not be that trivial, but certainly possible.

Thanks everybody!

@Stefan: I don't own a Gibson, but I thought the shirt was cool and guitar-related. My main guitar is a Fender US Stratocaster, socondary is an ESP US M-1 deluxe strat...

Yup, and two of the stores are within 100 meters of the school - pretty interesting approach!

@Evan and Steffen: I am sure that more B&O will populate the apartment, but the 8000 set is indispensable. The Beolab 5000 amplifier will accompany it when I get done with the restoration.

@Eddy: I'll sleep on the couch! Thanks mate.

@Friedmett: I once had a Schecter Synyster Custom guitar which was imported from the UAE - as far as I know one of only three in the country. Too impractical and  heavy compared to my Strats Wink

Not a B&O flash, but a pic from yesterday taken from the yacht near Skærbæk in Kolding fjord Laughing

Good point, Mika. But - as I wrote above - the problem is that when i swap the amplifiers, both sets sound 'wrong'...
The 5000's become too 'bass-heavy' with the amps from the 4500's (because of this 'bass extension) -and the 4500's becomes too 'bass'light' with the 5000 amps.
So it woud probably be necessary to remove the resistors from the 5000's amps anyway...Unsure

Very nice setup ptbb. Enjoy your system!

Just one recommendation: I would place your Beolabs more apart for a better stereo image and stage (if there is place of course). A litle toe-in does the trick as you have already done. You can even hide the powersupply of the BS5e behind one of the speakers for a neater look.

Very nice!

In my BL3000s the resistor is even soldered in and then one of its legs cut off. Not sure if it's the same in the 4500, but my guess is its the same board so there should be space. And it's not a surface mount component (obviously) in my BL3000. Open up the amp and take a look.

Hey Dave

maybe a late comment, but this is a really nice setup. I like the way you simplify it and keep it smooth.

(My first view one this threat-but a long one keeps the my night interresting).

The squares are lights from a Belgian brand calles Deltalight, they are in brushed alu or stainless steel. I have them around the house on dimmers.
