I wish. Tonight's flight was a whopping 33 minutes long, and if we are lucky might be 32 on the way back! It's a device I'm beginning to really appreciate. A bit more bassy than the normal devices, pound for pound its fantastic. Looking forward to the new device whatever it may be!

Pizza box in the house! Smile

While impressive, my gargantuan stereo in the living room was made slightly miserable by an early 2000's Rotel preamp. It was cold and metallic sounding, not to mention its peaky-ness caused some very audible resonances in my Altec A7 cabinets.

For almost a year now, I've been thinking about what preamp to replace it with and luckily I found this.

It operates solely as a preamp for listening to CDs and AUX. Hopefully I can work in my BG3404. The rest of the system is active two-way, thanks to a dedicated JBL crossover.

Not having a BeoLink 1000 made me feel like I was missing out on a part of vintage B&O culture but now I have one! More exciting than that is the pristine MCP!

Now the search is on to get a CD player to match. That RCA has a curiously similar color scheme and design... Huh?

Very nice Mr Anderson !

We did have our white BV8-32 + red BL4s in our bedroom ... and one day the may come back ... I had not thought of the bedroom ultimately being a home for our black BL6000s so thank you !

And I think I can see a piece of stackable B&O from the '80s ... is that the BG5500 ?

I only got 8 running at the same time (2x BM8000) but the sound is nice and loud:) There wasn't room for a nicer picture so i split my M100's and put 6 in another part of the room :

No, its just amazing what you put up there, and yes shipping is not an option, expensive and probably going to damage the speakers. I will continue looking and count my pesos. Thank you for sharing your pics.

Hello B&O Community,

I thought I would share a couple of pictures of the classic B&O setup I put together for my living room. I have a Beosystem 7000 in black with Beocord 7000 and a Beogram CD 7000, and Beolink 7000 all matching, like new condition. The stand is a Hi-Fi wedge from Lourens Fischer. The Penta IIIs are from 1998 and are connected to the Beomaster 7000, not to the Avant. The Avant DVD and Beomaster are linked via 1611 converter. I have no rear speakers, so it seemed better that way. I like the setup a lot and hope to get many years of enjoyment out of using it. Thanks to Dillen for the replacement belts for the Beocord and the Beogram CD.

Could you write us all a considered review of the Essence ?

  • what you have found that is good
  • what you discovered about its usage that surprised you (some times our toys change us !)
  • what were the short comings (if any)

Thanks, I did have 17s but i had a few issues which the amazing guys at Knightsbridge dealt with, with a service i don't think I've encountered any where and really do hold them in high regard and highly recommend them.

the beolab 14s are incredible speakers, and that sub boy does it rock!!!! The bass is so deep but what love is the way that it plays in tandem with the satellite speakers.

I have the sub set to the corner setting resting on a granite work top which i feel helps in keeping the bass tight and controlled.

a) it's great set up - love the feel of the room

b) good (but not great [)]) to see integration with another TV - proof of the market positioning working AND looking good (mainly because of your sense of style)

c) excellent that you speak up for your dealer

d) and finally thanks for the configuration tips

when its "just" music do you wish you could broaden the stereo sound stage ... or do you anyway by moving the left hand speak stand to the other side of the ex-fireplace ?

This post is OT, so will open a new thread if this requires longer discussion.

I noticed the Loewe+BL14 above. I assume the Loewe actually acts as center speaker and uses the LR-front to create 2+1 sound? Besides Loewe, do any other TVs allow to act as center? I am having a top-of-line Sony (besides my BV5), so curious whether this may also be doable?

I was surprised how good the 14's were when i tested them at Collins St.  Loved them to bits.

Great setup btw :-)

Thank you for your comments elephant, when I had the 17s i had one at the other side of the fireplace but with the 14s being so compact having them either side of the tv frees up some floor space and the sound stage hasn't suffered.

the 14s have a really 3-dimensional soundstage and although they are on the tv stand the sound quality feels as though it extends from all corners of my front room, it's really hard to explain these are the best sub sat speakers I've ever owned and I have had many speakers over the years not from B&O but from other brands but these are in a different class.

they integrate well and the subwoofer has a low end which sounds like more than the 280 watts it's supposed to have.

Hi steve1977 your actually wrong on that point I'm afraid, certain higher end loewe tvs have the option to run active speakers, via a cable called audio link which connects and screws to a connection port on the tv.

Its a cable which has pre-amp sockets at the end it enables connection to any of loewes own subwoofers and speakers which connect in a similar way to the beolab 14. The higher end loewe tvs have Dolby digital and dts decoders built in just like B&O.

In my case before i got the beolab 14s i had the 17s connected to the pre-amp sockets of the audio link cable on my tv, from there you go into the sound components setting on the loewe and select speaker system.

From there you have the options to set speaker distances, frequency levels, volume levels and even the option to tell the tv that you have a subwoofer connected, on no other tv I have seen have these options other than on B&O and loewe.

my 17s at the time were connected via 5 meter RCA cables to the line in input then going into the pre-amp left and right output on the loewe with the loewe distributing the volume to the speakers. So when the tv turned on the lab17s would sense the signal and switch on and when the tv was switched off the lab17s would go into standby.

I also don't have any speakers with my tv so it's not acting as a centre at all, I have the beolab 14s speakers connected to the sub with a 5 meter RJ45 to twin RCA phono cable going from the sub to the left and right pre-amp outputs on my tv, all I have did now is gone into the sound component menu on the tv and have lowered the speakers frequecies.

When i was using the beolab 17s i had them set to 40hz where I'm using the 14s i have now lowered the frequency to 30hz i know that the beolab 14 subwoofer can play down to 26hz but on my tv the lowest frequency I can set speakers to is 10hz, 20hz increments I have met in the middle and settled at 30hz.
