Dear members,
is there any B&O Olufsen DVD or CD Player that is compatible with SACD? If not, what SACD player would you recommend?
Greetings,
Kai
If would rather look for a hires streaming and / or download service in combination with a good network music player.
If you want to stay with phyiscal discs however, I would recommend a universal disc player such as Cambridge Audio CXU or an OPPO universal disc player. They have both excellent audio and video performance.
Streaming?
I'm oldschool in that respect and do not want do reorganize my entire music collection.
But still thanks for your reply! Can the DVD2 handle SACD?

No way!
There are quite a lot BluRay players (i.e. not the cheapest ones), that can playback SACD discs.
The teo mentioned above are among the best.
There are also/still 'only CD/SACD' players on the market - but these are mostly rather expensive.
(The Pioneer PD-30-K SACD is one at a resonable price level).
You should also consider, whether you want multichannel plyback or just 2-channel/stereo.
Depending on how you want to connect it, it might be best to look for a BluRay/SACD player.
Sometimes they have analog outputs (even as XLR) in addition to the HDMI output/s.
And some have a 'pure audio mode' as well.
If you want to connect it to a B&O-tv, you should consider having it PUC controlled.
Navigation as well as turning on/off will be easier tgen.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Barry Santini:Why bother with SACD?
Probably because the op already has a collection og SACD's.
Why not? It's not the worst of formats when it comes to multichannel listening. I still use an old Avant CRT. Is any of the models above compatible with that one?
Thanks!
Hi,
if you still use the old Avant i would suggest the Pioneer DV 696AV. It plays SACD, CD and DVD-Video and DVD-Audio Discs has SCART, FBAS, S-Video and Component Output, coaxial and optical SPDIF and decoded analog Audio and not to forget HDMI.
And it should be controllable by the DVD controller MK2.

It might still be possible to buy that second (or third) hand.
I've had the Pioneer DV-610AV for years (bought it secondhand then).
I used it with my old (long gone) BV Avant - scart and coax connected.
Mostly for playing DVD's/DVD-A's......and video files from a USB-stick ;-)))
But, don't forget - you won't get sound from the SACD using the coax/digital connection (for copyright reasons).
This only works using HDMI (though not on every old player) - or alternatively the analog outputs.
Thanks very much!
My priority is just to be able to use high quality multi channel sources. It's more about the sound than about the picture. And many multi channel recordings are on Blue Ray or SACD. I already have the DVD2 connected to the Avant via Scart. I could probably make use of the second scart connection on top of that. Would this make sense?
Apparantly, there are no combined Blue Ray/SACD Players with analog output (the Avant can't handle digital signals, can it?). Wouldn't a standalone SACD player make more sense then?
Thanks again and sorry for my ignorance...
There are indeed BR/SACD players with analog outputs - the OPPO is one of these.
But it is not possible to feed a B&O-tv with multichannel analog audio - no inputs available there.
Sorry to say it - you won't come around getting a newer BV with HDMI ports, if you want to listen to multichannel from the SACD (and BluRay-discs)!
However - you could use an OPPO standalone as a prepro and connect BeoLabs there....with some workarounds.
But it does work with the DVD2, doesn't it? Multichannel works there and it's only connected via Scart... Why is this different?
Thanks again.
Scart can only transport 2-channel audio (analog).
If you are hearing something in the rear/center/sub channels (on the old Avant), it will be from an upmixed stereo signal.
I can't remember, but wasn't there a second connection to be made between Avant and DVD2 to get surround sound (Audio out Coax)?
Yes, that is what most people do, if the have a 5.1 setup.
But, that would not help you with the SACD's!
But oft it works with the DVD2 why shouldn't it work with a SACD player?
Manbearpig:But oft it works with the DVD2 why shouldn't it work with a SACD player?
@Manbearpig
All hope is out.
Just realize it!
You'll need another BV (with HDMI-in) and a BluRay/SACD player, if you want multichannel audio from a BluRay or a SACD.
Ok. I See. Just tried it. Even the DVD2 works only in ProLogic as Lee has said. But the Avant DVD does work in real 5.1 doesn't it? So at least I could have real 5.1 from DVD then.
I'm in a conflict of interests here. I don't want a new Beovision since I don't like flatscreens and am perfectly happy with the old Avant other than the flaw of not being compatible with SACD or blue ray. I could easily do away with blue ray but SACD is a real downside for me. There are some good multichannel recordings out there, which are available only on SACD... And since it's not the most sought after format, those are often rather inexpensive, too.
Set the audio output from your Oppo BD103 or whatever to PCM (5.1/7.1) and you can play your BD, SACD's and DVD audio in the quality and channels you want!!
But probably not on the old Avant, which has only Scart connections?
Can the Beosystem 3 help here?
Manbearpig: Can the Beosystem 3 help here?
Anything that has a HDMI-port (an audio engine/5.1 and the appropriate amount of speakers) will do.
But are you sure that the Avant with DD module does not take 5.1 via the Input connections (coax)?
Avant DVD (via coax) can take 5.1 Dolby Digital/DTS (not DTS master audio or DD-hi-res) and SACD wil not being forwarded from your player (something with rights). And, as MM wrotes, any B&O TV/BS 3 and 4 with HDMI supports PCM 5.1 or 7.1 and that is what your player can distribute.
