Interim solutions

Given the state of B&O's new TVs (especially software-wise), and the quality-to-price ratio of their LCD based 4K solutions, I'm seriously contemplating the following "interim" solution, while waiting what the OLED BV will have to offer:

- 55" Bild 7 with motorized stand (replacing BV11-46); I might check how my BeoLab 11 works with Bild 7 – or – LG B6V.

- BeoSound 2 in the living-room

- BeoSound 1 in the bedroom (replacing BeoPlay A8, simply because of design).

- Savant Remote Control system

My BeoVision 11 (with BeoRemote One) would go to my parents, and the BeoPlay A8 to my office (or summerhouse). I'm sure I'll find some use for my pair of BeoPlay S3 – or perhaps I'll just box them for future use. No point in selling them, as they are frequently offered at €149,00 a piece at retail.

This interim setup (the TV part) would bring me 4K OLED while waiting for what B&O has in the pipeline for BeoVisions, and also give them time to sort out their software issues.

BeoSound 1 & 2 are, in my opinion, the stand-alone, yet multiroom, audio systems worthy of the Bang & Olufsen name. And they will always have a place in any future B&O setup – or as audio systems on their own.

As I mentioned in another post, I'm confident in B&O audio, and its value. Less so in the current lineup of BeoVisions.

What pains me is to forgo the "all-B&O" setup that I'm used to, and I'm hoping that late 2017 or in 2018 B&O's new televisions will mark a point of return to an all-B&O setup.

Interesting thought about the remote. But I had not heard yet that the Savant system is widely available in Europe.

The B&W dealer in Lyon/France is nearest (for me), but he has not all materials from this brand.

I think this will work fluently. I had Beolabs 4 that were connected to my previous Loewe TV and there was a menu to parameter and connect active speakers. They went on and off automatically with the TV. Now as I don't like cables I went for and Art UHD and just use it with the inbuilt 'soundbar'.

I think the Savant is still mostly US-only (in terms of retail / availability), but there are ways to privately import it to Europe. It's pricey, but it interests me. It has some features I wish BeoRemote One would offer (user profiles, scenes, voice control, proper touch screen), but it does lack the B&O design.

Yet the Savant is not, in my opinion, ugly by any means. I'll look forward to playing with it – and then sending my findings to B&O in terms of how to improve the BeoRemote One, or perhaps give birth to its bigger sibling, BeoRemote Two

I do have B&O always on my mind – regardless of any criticism I have for their products. I call it "tough love" for the brand that has given me so much.

Thanks. BeoLab 11 does have settings to make it work with non-B&O devices. I'll certainly give it a try. While at it, I might try to obtain all-black aluminum covers for the BL11; they might look better with a non-B&O TV.

Side note: if I ever were to get a BV Horizon, I'd include a BeoLab 11 with black covers to complement the TV, and boost the sound. I think B&O should photograph & promote Horizon with a black BL11 – for design, and empowering Horizon's speakers.

I'm very interested in what you think of the german tv KMA. A little bit more than 5.000 € for a 55" 4k hdr oled on motorised stand with 120 w speakers is a good thing.

I believe that they still have nice cabinets also to hide the boxes and Playstation.

has always been a kind of reference, when I was 'investigating' the possibilities of the BV11 etc series - apart from (of course) the Technical Sound Guide of Geoff Martin.

I am surpriced that you want to sacifize these possibilities for the sake of some video specs, that may or may not be usefull in dayly use of a television/sound system.

Personally I don't think, that you will be able to achieve what you could with the BV11 using a Loewe/Savant etc solution.

We will see - anyway I am looking forward to read about your solution (I expect that you will keep us updated) and I am sure, that you will be able to get the most out of 'your interim solution'.

If you will be satisfied with this, time will tell.

P.S. Why not hold your breath and wait for the LG/B&O BV?

your 11 46 has still a great picture and will still have in the next 4 years. 

up to 55, there is not enough picture quality gain, 4k sources and standard stability to justify an actual jump.

There is a tv - and there is a BV.

I would wait for the LG/B&O TV, if there was any concrete timeframe, when it will actually be available – and will it work when released, or will it again have the software issues, which B&O's new TVs have had more than their fair share of.

Also, details as to what sort of collaboration B&O and LG have, are veiled – meaning that there is little to no idea, what kind of a product the collaboration will result in.

I'll wait past CES in any case, to see what is in the pipeline from manufacturers.

As my switch to another TV will be an interim, temporary solution – I'm keeping my fingers crossed for B&O's future offerings – I have began to think that perhaps €5k for Bild 7 is overkill. As I want to dabble into OLED and a slightly bigger screen, B6V could be a more reasonable stop-gap TV.

Yesterday, when I thought about all the re-arrangements in my living-room, which a fixed position B6V would require, I did question the sanity of my decision to try an "ordinary" TV Maybe I didn't get enough Xmas presents and am just itching for a new toy... But I do want to experience if OLED is everything it's hyped to be.

In any case, my BV11 won't go that far away from me, as it will stay in the family. So if I'm disappointed in my choice, I do have the option of getting it back

Let's see where this excursion takes me.

I do agree; it's not an easy choice.

Every time I walk past my BV11, even when it's off, the design delights me.

But 4+ years with the same TV is an eternity for me; I'm way past my upgrade cycle. It is debatable, though, whether a non-B&O TV – even if it's OLED – is an upgrade.

I may very well end up running back to BV11 and write this of as a temporary lapse of reason
