Hello Beoworlders.
I'm looking for a new speaker / compact audio system but I would prefer one without battery as I cannot be sure how long the spare battery will be available (look Beolit 12...). I saw the training video from B&O how to replace the battery from the new BeoSound 1 (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o9zuXjqauig&list=PLRPmJ785xnMgO5BWUui4cWA-vJQogxYNi&index=13) and it seems quite easy to unplug the battery pack. I would like to know if it would work without any battery inside (once the battery will be dead I would prefer to take it completely out if no spare one is available at that time and leave the BS1 always plugged to the main)?
Although BS2 has better sound I don't really need it for my small living room. I prefer the design from the BS1, but BS2 and BeoPlay M5 have no battery inside... If the BS1 could work like a little BS2, this could help me to make my final choice.

why are you worrying about the battery if you don't want to use it unplugged? i guess there will be no problems at all in using it on mains

I'm not sure if the battery will last long even when always plugged because in this case there is still a cycle of small charge discharge charge... to maintain it fully charged.
I think I remember reading somewhere that it's not good for a lithium battery to stay charged all the time... At least for a laptop.

Yeah, you should completely allow it to drain, leave it drained for a few hours, then charge it again.
Mind you, my old Beosound 3 (was it a BS3?) portable radio is still going strong on it's battery.

I had one as well but was not lucky with it... Battery died after 2-3 years and the touch panel had been replaced 3 times...
I have 2 MacBooks and one is always plugged in the main as I use it as a desk computer but it's battery 'health' is only 74% after 5 years and the maximum capacity cannot be reached anymore (I guess because always plugged).
That's why I'm thinking of the 'after battery life' if I go for the BS1.
I'm thinking of it if the BS1 cannot be used without any battery inside. But design wise I prefer the smaller version (it will fit better where I intend to place it).

Just have a look at Samsung Note 7 exploding batterys even when the phone is off or some iPhones with melted batteries...

I think it is a really difficult question you ask, especially to ask such specific details from a Beosound1 that is only a couple of months in use.
I remember from a thread that a member already had problems with the battery and the dealer exchanged his Beosound.
The LED was showing a faulty flashing battery indication, so it could be the case also if you remove the battery. I don't now if the Beosound keeps working as it should, but if so its up to you if you would like the faulty indicator for ever.

Another thing to consider about removing the battery: the battery is taking up space inside the enclosure, so removing it would change how the BeoSound 1 sounds, at least ever so slightly, because you suddenly have more internal volume and the software is probably not designed to account for this.

The battery could be unplugged from the unit (watch the video) and left in place if the unit would function properly without the battery connection. Someone who has one would have to disassemble their unit to test this though. I probably wouldn't be so brave to do this. Perhaps this is a question for the dealer as they may be able to get an answer from B&O.
OK, so i am doing research to decide what i want to do about taking a wireless speaker with me in my motorhome. I looked at Naim Muso QB and Beosound 1 and 2 and got lots of power consumption info.
Beosound uses 90 WATTS!!! Typical consumption vs Beosound 2 which uses 22.1 watts and Naim which uses 25 watts.
This indicates to me that Beosound MUST be run off of batteries at all times due to the major difference. Additionally, charging consumption is 18-23 watts.
My conclusion is that you charge at a similar consumption rate as Beosound 2 and Naim but then when its being used it runs at 90 watts (BUT NOT FROM THE WALL... IT TAKES IT STRAIGHT FROM THE BATTERY).
