Hi guys
I'm thinking of buying an essence and wondering if anyone can tell me how to connect it to a BV 7-40.
Hi ollie75,
there could be different ways to do that!
The best and the official solution is to add a NL/ML Converter to the setup - since your excisting ML-setup has to be connected to the newer NL (of the Essence).
But, if you already have a ML-compatible Audio System (a BeoSound 9000 or similar), you could add the Essence as an Aux-source.
(Please ask for howto later, if you end up so).
This way the Essence would act as one (!) source - all navigation (apart from activating and volume control) would have to be done with the Beomusic app or through AirPlay, Google Cast, Bluetooth...
If no Audio System already in the setup, the (old) BeoLink Converter 1611 could act as a ML-driver with the Essence connected to the Aux. All controlling would be similar to the above.
Alternatively you could use an audio-in socket on the BV7 - depending on the type/MK of the BV7 - via a scart adapter or the cinch left/right inputs.
I would strongly advice you to use the NL/ML Converter solution, since this would give you a more smooth integration and a better handling of the individual sources built-in to the Essence.
And it would make your setup 'futureproof'.
However, if you already think of replacing your BV7 with a newer NL-capable BV, you could use one of the other solution as an interim solution.

There is a tv - and there is a BV
Thanks MM
All makes sense. At the moment I'm just using an Apple TV to stream my music but would like a simpler way and also play my Flac files. I have a BS 9000 but it is masterlinked to the BV 7
Fine - so just connect the PL-output to the Aux-in of your BS 9000 - the box can be hidden away.
You will need a special cable for that - your B&O dealer will know which one.
Alternatively - the Beoworld sponsor - Steve at SoundsHeavenly can sell you one.
If possible use a wired connection for the Essence.
The Essence (using the BeoSetup app) will have to be configured as 'fixed line-out' - so that all volume control will be done on the ML-linked BV7.
The 'wheely' of the Essence is not of much help here - source management as described in my post above.
This will give you a lot of new possibilities on the BV7 - AirPlay, GoogleCast, Spotify Connect, access to your FLAC files (if managed by a DLNA server) and thousands of netradio stations via TuneIN........
Enjoy
Hi MM,
Thanks for the recommendation. Yes, the Essence can plug into the Aux socket of the Beosound 9000 using this cable:-
http://soundsheavenly.com/playmaker-and-essence-wireless-streaming/84-rj45-to-aux-input-cable-airplay-on-your-bo-system.html
This is simple to use and the sound from the Essence can be accessed in any room via Masterlink by selecting A.AUX.
Kind regards, Steve.

Just to add on to the bit about the connecting cable from the BeoSound Essence to the aux socket of a Bang & Olufsen audio system, you need RJ45 to 5 pin din. Bang & Olufsen don't actually make this cable so Steve @ Sounds Heavenly is the best option.
