Hi all,

In about two weeks a will pick up a Beogram 2202 in mint condition from Belgium. This should complete my vintage set. (still looking for a Beocord 2400 or Beoord 5000).

Because I don't have a service manual, I will ask you how to transport the Beogram save.

Do I have to disconnect the tonearm, fasten the platter?

I'm looking forward to your advice.

With greetings,

Hi there.

You must not disconnect the tonearm (would be very difficult -and even more to put it back again) Wink

Just take off the platter and tighten the 3 transport-screws. You might take off the cartridge(pick up unit) too. Then you can transport it safely.

Greetings

Steffen

If the Beocord 5000 you are looking for is the open spool version as opposed to the cassette version, then I am afraid you will be unlucky in obtaining one.

I was told at the Struer Museum recently that it never went into production and only a  prototype was produced which is in the Struer Museum.

The 2202 has transit screws to do up. I would remove the platter and put it elsewhere and put a block of foam rubber under the tone arm. And remember not to let Belgium get to you and drive like Jacky Ickx!

Hi all,

Thanx for your help.

So the best way is to remove the platter, fasten the (3) transport screws and fasten the tonearm with rubber foam and tape. That will do the job.

Oh yes, I am not looking for an open reel tape but cassette tapedeck.

I will let you know about the transport from Belgium.

I would continue to dream about a Beocord 5000 but would buy anything else!! Why not look for a Beocord 8004 - far more reliable, better performance and ridiculously cheap. The 5000 is probably the one B&O component that will cause you the most grief! It is beautiful, very advanced for its  time and has a B&O designed transport - which is the major cause of the problems!!

Hi Peter,

In 1982 I bought my first tapedeck, a Beocord 8002. Very sophisticated for its time. Regrettably I

've sold it when I bought my black Beosystem 7000. This year in May I sold my BS7000. In the meantime I bought a Beocord 5500 very cheap.

But I want a tapedeck that suits the best with my vintage set (BM2400, BG2202 and Beovox S30) in my office at home.

The BC8004 is very good, even better than a BC8002, but hard to find.

Any suggestions, e.g. a Beocord 1900/2400 or BC8004/9000) are very welcome! Shipment to The Netherlands. Most decks need new belts or even a recap. New belts are available on Ebay etc, but I'm looking for a serviced deck, because I'm not a technician. if you know someone who can help me, please let me know. I'm also using now a Beocenter 4600. (our first BC from my parents). Works fine, but the sliders for tonecontrol will give some problems. Any idea how to fix this? It looks like that the cord is fine, but the slider has to be set on a pin or something. Any help is welcome.

With greetings!

I think the 8000 series deck goes quite well with the 2400, or try a Beocord 2000 - unlike the 2400, this is exactly the correct height to match your 2400. Should be almost free these days! They do appear on eBay. There is one on now which looks good if a little expensive at £55.

On the 4600, I would set the tone to the default setting in the middle and then leave it alone!
