Hello everyone,

My Beosystem 4500 was working fine yesterday, then after some FM station programming by remote I wanted to change to cd. The amp changes to cd but the cd(or beocord for that matter) but the cd-player(or beocord) does not turn on. When turning them on on their panels they work, but without remote control. Also when I play a cd and press remote buttons I can hear it over the speakers.

Taking the power off over night didn´t help. I disconnected the RAM-battery and restarted after code 1271. It worked fine again untill I closed it up again and programmed a couple of fm-stations. Again datalink was lost. Tried to disconnect battery to go to code again, but apparently it takes longer now as after half an hour it still didn´t enter code mode.

I want to enter test-mode to test the rom-ram, but am confused by the manual: you have to shortcircuit the testmode plug on PCB4(microcomputer), but I can´t see any indication of such a plug except for the 3 unused pins at the front(picture).

Does anyone know how to put it in test mode or has an idea what´s wrong?

Many thanks, Bram.

I dont think it is on the processor board you enable testmode.

If I recall correct there are 2 test pins under the glass plate, to the right og the large PCB.

Just short circuit these while plugging in to outlet.

You´re right! I thought the error in the manual was that it said pcb6 in the image, but the error is pcb4 in the text! Will test later today.

I was way off. Did all the tests and everything checked out ok. I started unplugging some things and after unplugging the cd the beocord responded normally again! I´m thinking faulty cd cord now and should have been tipped off by hearing data messages when on the cd input but not on any other input. Though it strikes me as odd that even the beocord doesn´t respond because of that. The input wires are pretty bent because of the cablecovers and maybe someone knows whether they´re prone to fail?

Thanks Weebyx for the help so far!

I have seen a lot of failed connections in the connectors if they have been bend over time. Normally the wires break off in the soldering on the pins.

Open up the connector and have a look.

Will do. By the way, during the led check I saw an unfamiliar light: APX, next to timer. Couldn´t find any info on it. What does it mean?
