First off, I'm hoping that I'm doing this right ? Being nearer to 90 than 80, my mistookies are increasing but I have every intention of keeping my mind active. I'm more than pleased to be with you.
I acquired my Beocord 1600 4205 years ago and used it with a large mixing desk that I built in the late 60's. Using the latest (at the time) condenser mics, I made some very successful recordings mainly of big stage concerts and these have been on the shelf for a number of years. I had an interest in recording for the midlands region of the BBC in the mid 70's.
A revival of some of my recordings has been requested by some of the families of the various performers and I feel that I have a duty to do my best. I'm hoping to re-record them to digital. This is where the problems start since my Beocord requires a bit of attention !
I have got it playing back in a fashion but I will have to adjust the braking pull strings, the take up spool is dragging on playback. The pots are a bit scratchy but I can temporarily sort that.
So there we are, I can only hope that someone will have an interest in what I'm intending to do and I have just one request .... I've lost my operating booklet so perhaps I can download one from somewhere ?
My kind regards to all Derek Miles.
Derek,
A Very Warm Welcome to Beoworld..
I think many Beoworld members will be very interested in your knowledge of the Beocord 1600.
We do have some information HERE on this reel to reel tape deck, but you may be able to add additional information..
Regards Keith....

What a great first post, any details of who you recorded would be most interesting
You need to chat to Tim Jarman - he is a big reel to reel fan and has one of these (I think I gave it to him!) The 1600 was one of the later decks - a very good domestic machine and was designed so it could be set up to sit vertically unlike the earlier 1800/2400/2000 range. The 2400, (which i also donated to Tim!) was a semi-professional machine and beautifully made.
The 1200 was the version of yours without the built in amplifier - Tim has done an excellent summary of it here.
Welcome to Beoworld - I look forward to hearing how you get on!

Great to receive such responces to my 1600 rebuild and I do have a particular problem. Before getting into the electronic side my priority is to fix and prove the mechanical workings. Whatever I do I must protect the archived tapes. So far I've done pretty well and just have one problem left. The right take up spool (turntable) works perfectly on fast forward and reverse. All braking is well behaved with no problems. But, on playback the spooling it not taking up. I know where the problem is but here I require some tech info ?
Page 42 of the service manual would give me all the info that's required but the soft focus of the writing cannot be read. Blowing up the page just knocks out the english writing on the left side. I have tried everything that I know to overcome the problem but now I'm stuck.
Really hoping that someone can send my just that one page # 42 in landscape.
Regards to all Derek Miles.
Hi Derek,
Not sure if this is what you are after, but here is a link to the (correct?) service manual that should be readable when you zoom in:

Let me know if this works for you.
Best,
