Hi I've bought recently Beomaster 7000 together with Beogram & Beocord 7000.

The plan was to hook it to Beosound 9000 (via AUX) with Beolab 8000 which I've bought brand new some years ago.

Unfortunately there seems to be something wrong with Beomaster and I'd like to consider the options if to have it repaired or search for another one on eBay or elsewhere.

Symptoms :

-No sound coming out of the speaker

-Beomaster doesn't remember the settings re loudness, bass, treble

-When turntable starts to play Beomaster doesn't turn on automatically

-The unit turns itself on everyday just by itself in more or less the same time of the day (I turn it off and next day the same).

Any ideas what can be wrong and if that's purely hardware glitch or can something be fixed by some setup ?

THX

Hi there and welcome to the forums!

Marek:

-No sound coming out of the speaker

Did this happen when you connected the BM to the BS as you described, or did you try connecting the Beolab speakers directly to the BM? Does the headphone output of the BM work?

Also notice that unless option-changed, both BM and BS will be responding to your remote if you are using them together.

You need to use the STORE function to save the audio settings. How this is done depends on which remote control you are using.

Marek:

-When turntable starts to play Beomaster doesn't turn on automatically

See if the Beograms cable have five or seven pins, the top two are removable and carry the data to talk between Beomaster and Beogram. If missing, there will be audio but no datalink between the units.

Marek:

It might be programmed to do this. The timer programming requires a two-way remote control, ie. Beolink 5000 or 7000.

I think you can set the audio and timer functions with an MCP5500 or MCP6500 two-way remote as well.

There is a plastic dummy plug on the connection panel at the back. If that is missing, you will get no sound from the speakers but sound from the headphones. Does the turntable have the full 7 pins in the DIN plug?

Thank you for your reply !

Seems like having everything properly set up by B&O technician (BS when bought) and trying to fix the set up by myself (adding BM now) are two completely different worlds Smile

Suddenly it seems like sounds is there - in headphones and in speakers connected via BS as well - so fingers crossed tomorrow morning it'll be the same ...

Very good point re remotes (Beo4 & Beolink 1000) - both are functioning with BS and BM - a bit mess here but to be sorted later if everything else works OK.

Once I set the right bass/treble etc I press STORE on Beolink 1000 and red LED flashes on BM so I assume it should be stored - however after switching on/off it's not setup again ... Is there any internal battery which might be dead ?

7 pins there and if I plug BG to CD connector everything works fine - BM turns on except it shows CD instead of PHONO on display (which is logical) - does it mean PHONO connector at the back of BM is malfunctioning?

Not having two-way remote is there any way to reset the unit to factory setting and see if that was just the way how BM was programmed ?

Peter

there's dummy plug in LINE IN/OUT present and the cable between BM & BS is in TV/AUX - which I hope is correct

You need to press STORE twice. Smile After the first press the LED will flash, after the second it wil be steadily lit and your settings are stored.

The Beogram will work in the CD socket because the CD is programmed to think it is a RIAA equipped record player (Don't you just love B&O!) It does sound as though the phono socket might have a loose connection then.

The timer bit is annoying - you need a two way controller - or you will have to remove the lithium battery in the 7000 which retains the memory. I would definitely opt for the former - the Beolink 7000 is the most advanced controller of its time and is a must for the 7000 system. Not sure how it will work with the 9000 and 7000 together though.

A dealer can probably run the configuration through his guide and come up with some answer though. Most are more than happy to do so - gets you into the shop and their database!!

That's the most probable cause - as I'm not into soldering etc. I'll have to live with Beogram playing and CD on display - annoying detail but can be worse Smile

Off to e-Bay then as dealers support request I'm saving when I'll buy Beovision 9 in next 2 months AND then I'll need someone to properly set it up as whole ...

btw - lithium battery is soldered to the board or replaceable ? before I try to open the unit

Seriously - dealers like people coming in - even if you don't buy anything! It means they know you and they can often eventually get a sale. You will also get offers of second hand gear which is often ridiculously cheap.

I seem to remember the battery is soldered I am afraid.

I might give it a try but I was a bit skeptical as it's distributor here in CZ and not own&operated which might be limiting the willingness to support in case you're not buying half of the showroom.

That TV setup definitely will need B&O technician (re TV selection I'm opening new thread so it's not mixing topics)

Re battery - I thought so but finally it seems like BM remembers the settings - another positive one (one day on forum here and majority of the topics solved so far - life's beautiful Smile )
