Beo A6 and A9 - randomly popping sound as if they are reconnecting

Folks,

I have 2 A6s and one A9 all connected to the same wifi network. Over the last month or so any one of the speakers will randomly make the popping noise as if they were connecting to the network. This may happen once a day or so when I am around to hear it at least. 

The network appears stable and of course it is never is all of them but just one. 

Any ideas?

I had this on my A9 and Essence recently... I'm just wondering if it's not autoupdate that completes everything...

Otherwise, it can be a network stability issue on the B&O products...

Hi,

once a day may not be the auto update feature. You can diasable it for testing in the BeoApp.

Possible that the update fails and the A9 will try it next day again.

Check in BeoApp if you have the recent software.

There is a log as well, may be some errors occur.

If possible you cann look in the log of your router. I should log networkerrors or loss of WIFI.

Could be a poor  WIFI connection.  The network led has 3 colours which indicates the connection quality

white= excellent, orange=good, red poor

The BeoApp shows the state as well.

What do you mean by popping noises? Do you mean that beep, beep that it makes when it boots?

Or do you mean more of a plastic pop sound?

Just returned from traveling so now seeing responses, so to all thanks for thoughts on my issue.

Tos evered hand The beep or pop noise when it reboots and is then signaling it is connected to the wifi system.

 

 

Mine seems to do that randomly sometimes as well. Either a Automatic firmware update was installed or your Wifi router rebooted/reconnected with the A9.

Hopefully it is for those reasons at least.

I have been hearing it all over my house too lately.  The Essence in my bedroom makes the connection sounds and I look over and the lights are red on my BeoLab 17's.  I have also heard it on the A6 in the upstairs bedroom as I walked by.  I think I've heard it coming from my BeoSound 2 while sitting on the couch, but that was probably only once.

i just moved the A6 to the study, connected it accidentally there with a switch that's normally off the mains and when turning on the switch the popping sounds occur at the A6. the same with the bluetooth settings of the M5: i opened them completely to connect an echo, forgot to go back to the standard settings and the next day i was surprised by the popping sounds. reason was the phone with bluetooth on when i came home

I don't have any bluetooth paired devices on any of my systems, so unfortunately this is not the case for all these occurrences!

None of my speakers are connected through Bluetooth. Popping persists randomly but probably almost hear it every day. Seems more likely related to updating versus my wifi which seems quite stable.

I use the Apple TimeCapsule as my hi-fi router and it has been rock solid.  All my devices have "excellent" connectivity.  I have only noticed this since the last firmware update in December, so my guess is the popping sound is related to that update.

You could check the error log in BeoSetup app in case there's a hint of what's going on. Firmware updates can't be that common unless they fail, and that would probably show in the log.

Wifi dropouts could be eliminated from the list of causes, if you temporarily connect the speaker via wired Ethernet to monitor if the blips go away.

I wouldn't be suprised if it actually was WiFi reconnecting - most "household browsing" is connectionless, so you wouldn't probably notice brief dropouts unless you happen to be watching the icon / indicator leds when it happens. Or it could be just the router forcing a new DHCP lease on the speaker that could be avoided with a fixed IP setting.

I haven't noticed my A6 doing that - the blibs are certainly loud enough to be annoying...

Ok, I took a look at the logs on my Essence and my A6.  If there is a network problem I would think it would affect all at the same time.  My Essence "popped" 3 times that I am aware of today (I could search the log to find all the occurrences, but here is the log entries:  (last occurance)

Essence

A6

BeoSound 2

This is not happening on the BeoSound 2.  I typically don't hear this "popping" from it.

As you can see from the log times, it doesn't happen at the same time on the Essence and A6.

OK, I believe that confirms that the blips are indeed network reconnects, but doesn't reveal the cause.

As the times differ (I assume both units have their time & date set correctly), the entire router is apparently not rebooting or reconnecting with some upstream router.

I guess it could still be a DHCP lease renewal that possibly also forces the unit to a different IP. Then this would happen at regular intervals starting from when the unit was last rebooted. I think I would try a fixed IP setting as Moxxey always recommends for the A9 Smile If this happens several times a day, it wouldn't take that long to find out if it helped.

I seem to recall you can turn notification sounds for the unit off in BeoSetup. If you never noticed any connection problems except for these blips, this could be enough.

I'll have to go through the setup options again, but I've never paid attention to the notification sounds since I've never really looked for them.  I would be fine just turning off the notification sounds, not that they are that annoying, I just don't need to know that it lost its connection for a few seconds, as long as I am not playing music at the time!

If it is a DHCP lease renewal, there is a problem somewhere there.  While I have the Essence log entry for 17:26 it also happened a few hours before at 15:01.

Hi everyone

My A6 and A9 made these pops several times last days. I tried to reset to factory setting and use a fixed IP but it did not change anything. The wifi LED is white on the A9 and the A6 is connected through ethernet...

I am now waiting for a firmware update...

My apologies but I am unfamiliar with a lot of technical pieces of this. I did grab my most recent log records from the A9. So not sure what the deezer issue is but I do not have an account, Nor do I know what the Network state down means so if anyone can shed light it would be great. Thanks!

    Spoke with someone from a local Bang and Olufsen store who has helped me in the past with network issues. We troubleshot my system and everything is in order. He told me that this happens in his store as well. Basically any network interruption may trigger this. He said he would report it to Bang and Olufsen to alert them and see if it becomes something they want to consider in future firmware updates.

    The random beeps usually means its reconnect to your Network, it ether poor wifi or som think like a microwave jamming connection.

    Try this app: https://itunes.apple.com/dk/app/beotool/id1068472522?l=da&mt=8

    This will show all the info you need to troubleshoot the speakers.

    It will show info about the wifi connection make sure its like Good or better.

    In som cases it can all so be a overflow of traffic on the network, if the only router you got is from your ISP you should consider buying a more "hi end"  router like Cisco and let that do the work.
